To UKTVGold managment, will you please try and listen to the people who keep your channel going. The devoted viewers who have made your channel one of the most popular in digital land. Endless messages which portray your channel in a negative but accurate light are appearing here and yet little is being done to rectify the matter. If you find it diffcult to come up with a few new shows to suit the wider scale why not just do a poll on your website asking people to vote for the shows they would like to see back the most, such as DYNASTY! Thank you.

They dont listen! When i first had satellite tv UK GOLD was my fav channel, there were loads of DIFFERENT CLASSIC sitcoms, dramas, and sketch shows, then suddenly the logo changed and became UKTV GOLD and also the programes changed and ever since we have been stuck with the same old things over and over again. All i can say is please fix UKTV GOLD, take a look at the old UK GOLD from the mid 1990`s and spice that up a little!

I agree. I understand that the channel only has the rights to show a program a certain number of times but recently its like watching BBC3+1. Gone (again) are the classic doctor who and replaced with the new series. Episodes of eastenders and casualty that have been shown in the last 24 months on the bbc already. Sitcoms like My Family that seem to be shown on bbc1 the appear on Gold.
Even trying to locate a program isa nightmare. There are comedy progs like Keeping Up Appearences being shown on UK Drama. 10 yrs ago I loved this channel. I couldntget enough of it., such as dynasty, dallas, old neighbours and eastenders, doctor who, hi-de-hi, tripods. Nameless sows that are still in the bbc archives never to be shown again because UK(sometimes)Gold want to appeal to an audience that jst watches repeats of bbc progs from the last couple of years.
And as much as I reallylove it, please remove only fools and Dibley from your schedules. Even if its for a week.

I totally agree with everything you say. Everytime you turn on either UKTV Gold or Drama it's the same boring old programs. It's about time we had more of a variety. I don't mind watching whats on there OCCASIONALLY but could we please have more of a choice.

The UKTV GOLD bosses never listen to fans. Take The Bill for example. People are crying out for a run of older episodes, yet they refuse to show them. The episiodes at the minute are only about a year behind ITV. They are having a so called "Re wind" in may. Yet the rewind consisists of a few random episodes from a few years ago then back on to what they have just recently shown.

And I really cant understand why UKTV DRAMA is showing comedies all the time.

AGREED! I have been trying to make myself heard for weeks now.. instead they just ignore me...

they think they know what's best for the show, but when they get a load of complaining viewers they can't be doing a very good job - I mean afterall, we're the ones they're trying to please!!!

They say that they can't take our advice seriously because they have to look at the 'bigger picture', what this means, is that they look at the statistics, and if enough people are watching each show... then there's no need to change anything!

What they don't understand is that the majority of fans are sick of watching the same series of the same shows over and over again, most only do it either to show their loyalty, or in the hope that maybe, just maybe, a different series might end up on our screens one day, but UKGold are too stubborn to let that happen!

Just like with The Bill, us Casualty fans are BEGGING for series 14 and 15 to be shown, we always assumed that eventually they would, but we too are now getting the series from 2 years ago, they wait till it catches up with today, and then they go back to 2 years ago again, its a neverending loop of the same episodes and we're all sick of it!!

When will they listen to the people who they should be trying to please in the first place?!!

UKGold are PURPOSELY IGNORING US!!!!

I am going to keep bumping these topics up until they are no longer ignored, what we have to say is important, and they should be trying to please us, as their viewers, not purposely patronise us, and make us feel unwanted, and unimportant... I will not rest until action is taken, so that we get to watch decent TV once again!

I have been told that the schedulers have been informed of this topic and will respond... funny, because I don't see any response from them yet... do you?!

Whatever reason they have for purposely ignoring us in rude, disrespectful, and unnacceptable, so I shall bump this topic until something is done!

they must think we are stupid all they have done with the revamp is show the same programmes but at different times instead not just once but umpteen times. its about time they listened to the viewers and give us what we would like to see. by the way good to see men behaving badly backon gold but why so late and will you ever show series 1? how about a men behaving badly weekend?????

ukgold DO think we're stupid they think we'll actually carry on watching their channels after treating us with such patronism

WHEN they stop insulting us, they will realise that the only reason we are getting so worked up about this is because we want their channel to be good, so that everyone can benefit... who exactly do they expect to watch the channel in the first place, if the viewers themselves are so angry and unhappy?!

it's crazy, you'd think they're just brainless dummies the amount of consideration they put into programming! I've a right mind to apply for a job at UKGold, just so I can see what it is that goes on down there which is more important than trying to please the people who actually want to watch the channel

Not gonna work, I'm not breaking any rules so you can't delete my posts!

All I'm doing is wondering why UKGold refuse to respond, I don't understand what it is they're so afraid of.

Our comments are logical and advice is good, if they agree then they should tell us that, and put it into action, and if they disagree, then they should tell us that and tell us why, it's called discussion - after all, this IS a discussion board

deleting every post I post is not going to get anyone anywhere!

Do you reckon there is an official complaint procedure we could follow?

Tried that, as I say they don't care what we have to say - it's because we're right and they don't want to admit it I reckon!

Well there's no other explanation!

There are some very salient points in this thread and I'm happy to bump in support.

I have only joined today to voice objection to some changes in the schedules and I am saddened to hear that UKTV take no notice of their viewers, they would be nothing without us.

Its been a long time since I bothered to write into this forum but I’m glad to see the complaints are still coming in!!! I tried last year to bring this to UKTV’s attention but was completely ignored. UK Gold is a shadow of its former self… I too used to watch in the 90’s but very rarely bother now what with ITV3’s excellent vintage programming. What I find so funny is this endless ways of recycling the same shows they come up with using different marketing ploys designed to get you to spend money voting on something you voted for last month. Really underhand and cynical – they just want to appeal to the younger generation and get them to spend their pocket money on rip off phone-ins. I have children in their teens and they also think UKTV is rubbish. I would love to be a regular viewer again so please put on old Eastenders, Brookside, Dynasty, Dr Who and not shows that have just aired on the BBC last week. It is a waste of money for me to subscribe to UKTV I might as well just stick with freeview!

Well I have no intention of giving up, my next step is to call them up, and if that brings no success, I'm coming down there - I have a thing about catching trains so I'm sure I'd enjoy myself!

I don't understand why they're ignoring us, what they think they will gain by doing so, that's what's getting to me the most, I don't even mind all that much if they didn't change the schedule - JUST SO LONG AS THEY GAVE US A JUSTIFYABLE REASON WHY!!!

And I think the fact that they don't, and yet are still unwilling to change it, is what's causing this absurd protest again them.

I never wanted to complain, or argue, or get as worked up as I have done, but they're behaviour has gotten to me so much that I now can't let go - i have what is known as the go-get-it streak - i want UKGold to reply, so one way or another I will make it happen!

I'm glad to know I'm not the first to feel this way Wink Stormcat Wink - but I really do hope I am the last, because to think that a year ago the same feeling of frustration was spreading through the forum and nothing was done to assure us really gets to me. Do they not understand that we are the people who actually watch their show?! (or used to, I gave up on watching UKGold when they started repeating series 18 of Casualty about 2 years ago), but I still keep a close eye on the schedule, in the hope that one day the good episodes will return!

Any viewer who has a still complain or comment to make about the UKGold make-over is sure to end up with the same frustating reaction as the rest of us, and from what I've seen that's got to be a LOT of viewers!

UKGold said themselves that most viewers only tune in to watch a particular show, and don't watch the channel as a general, well then they've got to give us SOMETHING to watch in the first place, if they want to try and convince us to watch other shows - tell me I'm wrong - I bet you can't!

It's such a shame, UKGold used to always be my favourite channel when I first got Sky, old episodes of holby City and Casualty, and Neighbours from 5 years back - how exciting!! I was estatic, but now it's just a channel that has the rights to the series of Casualty that I really want to see and refuses to ever show it!

Hi Babydoll, You are right it is a shame as I for one used to watch UKGold all the time and not just dip in and out for the odd show as that is what kind of channel it used to be. You wouldn’t go brain dead watching it as there was a good variety of programming on. Then some fresh out of marketing college bod comes up with the bright idea of rebranding the channel, marketing to the yoof and repeating the same shows over and over and over again, whilst trying to rip them off with phone ins about Comedy Superheroes.
However having seen that Dallas is on again… something I remember begging for last year, I went home and watched it and was very pleased so maybe they have realised that their viewing figures are now smaller than the community channel’s and have decided to listen to us. But I wouldn’t hold my breath!
Also please bring back Prisoner Cell Block H – it has a HUGE cult following and more people would watch it than some repeat of the Vicar of Dibley! Smile

Yea right, they say this is a make-over, but they just put the same repeats of the same series they've been putting on for years - the only thing that's new is that they've stopped with all the good!!

It drives me crazy that UKGold is the only channel around with the rights to series 14/15 of Casualty, it's not likely to ever come on DVD (xxxx the BBC), and yet they choose to show repeats of the same series which any fan who bothers to watch it has taped now anyway, I found series 18 on e-bay a few weeks ago, and I can guarantee you it's all taped from UKGold, I can't tell you when though, because they've played it so many times! It's a terrible season anyway!

Glad to hear that they started listening about Dallas, you saying it took you a year? Well hopefully it won't take me that long - I really don't understand why they are being so stubborn about this - that's what's getting to me the most, it's more frustrating not hearing anything, than any other response they could possibly bring to us!

The most response I've got from them so far was:

"Thanks for your email. Unfortunately, we are only able to respond to
Message Board related issues."

Which I assure you, my issue is with this message board, and the poor moderation - when I say poor I mean, they think they have the right to delete innocent posts and yet don't feel it is their duty to justify anything that they do.

See the post I started named DavidUKTV, that's for direct questions to him, feel free to bump it with a comment, but I'm not resting until at LEAST that gets a reply!

I wholeheartedly agree. Why do UKTV continue to ignore valuable customers? I too am aware that schedules need to be changed from time to time, but why not let the fee paying public know if a program is to be scrapped i.e. Holby. It's only manners to let us know that it won't be back on at the end of the program - however to totally ignore questions on the matter is diabolical.

Casualty - I personally cannot bear to sit through the Simon/Lara scenario yet again.

I wonder if the BBC are aware of how their excellent Casualty/Holby are being presented by UKTV.

I too am not a moaner/complainer normally, in fact I'm so happy go lucky, however this situation has really got me down.

Cry Cry Confused Confused

Please UKTV RESPOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed - I never liked the Simon/Lara saga in the first place, only thing I did like was in Emotional Rescue (2) when she cries on Luke's shoulder - THAT's how well I know that series!

I have been assured that we have not been completely ignored, and something might, wait for it... ACTUALLY be done about our comments!!!

Just give it time - I will know more in the morning when the post is shown, much like this one.

Can I, as evidently one of the FEW SANE PEOPLE that reads these messages make a point (and I apologise for any offence caused)-

UKTV Gold is run by professionals, they get paid A LOT of money to do what they do and they have A LOT of experience in doing it. You do not. There are SO MANY reasons why the same shows are played and repeats are a plenty, the most obvious being cost.

That said - UKTV Gold is one of the most popular in the UKTV network, why? Because the people at the top know what they are doing and what customers want. The ten or so of you on this thread complaining about their schedules, and indeed the SMALL MINORITY on these boards screaming foul because of the schedules are just that - the small minority. For every complaining person here there will be several hundreds of thousands that have no beef with the way the channel is run.

Yes you can voice your opinions but please face facts and stop monopolising these boards - UKTV Gold IS pleasing the majority of customers and WILL NOT be changing any time soon. This is a message board to DISCUSS UKTV Gold - it isn't a platform for compalining to them, nor will, I hate to break the bad news, your 'suggestions' be taken into account - you are not professionals! UKTV Gold is making money and pleasing the majority - there are no grounds for them to change.

Sorry about the essay!

Hi Sam, Actually I have worked as a professional in the media for 15 years, including advertising and broadcast, I do understand how media companies work and that is what makes me so angry with UKGold because I know what goes on, in fact I have even been a temp at UKTV many years ago. Don't presume that we are all morons because we watch this channel, we are entitled to an opinion,it is after all my human right to complain about this further dumbing down of tv. How can you possibly justify the incredible amount of repeats and terrible scheduling that UK G come up with..they drop shows half way through the series, change the times of programmes, repeat the same episode maybe 10 times a week. that is no way to run a business nor keep a loyal viewing public. I fully understand your point that they have constraints but it is beyond a joke. All they have to do is put on a bit of programme variety (not only fools over and over agian - as much as I love it) maybe even air the shows at regular times and let the series run through to the end, don't start repeating it half way through. It is not rocket science, just the ineptitude of UKTV. Wink

Stormcat, you will see from my post that I don't think everyone here is a 'moron'. I don't think the sporadic scheduling is due to ineptitude of UKTV, more like the constraints imposed on them through licensers and production companies.

I do understand the restraints there are when it comes to showing a new series of a show, however I also know that the series that I have been petitioning for is not a new series, and there are no licensing issues associated with this series, as UKGold have shown it once before.

I'm not asking for the impossible, I'm asking them to make a logical decision, instead of repeating the same single series 5 times in a row. I do know what you're saying SamJ, but some of us do know what we're talking about.
