I love the new series and its great that UK GOLD are playing this. However, I would also like to see some of the old black and white ones again from the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee era. I know some of these are missing but it would be great to see the series from the start. What does anyone else think?

I agree. The new series really was a great realisation of our favourite programme - however we should not forget where it all originated from. The black and white episodes are full of the most vivid, amazing, well thought and daring episodes to ever be seen by Doctor Who. At a time when Sci Fi was still new, and at a time when there was more reliance on script - the 60's era should be seen again! From the Krotons, to the Seeds of Death. And from the Sensorites to the Ark. All classic stuff. We don't have it all, but what we do have we should savour and enjoy once more.

I agree also. I love the new series as much as the next person, but you can't replace the classics. I know some stories are missing and others are incomplete, but they should still show all they can.
I watch on weekend mornings and it was really annoying when they went back to the beginning of Peter Davison's era! And that wasn't even including Castrovalva!
They should show more of the classic b&w ones before they're forgotten and are also 'lost in time'.

Yes, I would also like to see UK Gold show Doctor Who from the beginnining or at least from 'Spearhead from Space' onwards. It is disappointing that UK Gold have now skipped even the Tom baker era and restarted from 'Castrovalva'. It was only a couple of years ago that UK Gold showed all of Doctor Who from 1970 onwards and a daytime slot for 'Robot' onwards!

My favouites two doctors are Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker and i hope UK Gold run their storys very soon.

Also seeint the available stories from the Hartnell and Troughton era would be fantastic so comeon UK Gold give the fans what they want .........please Big Grin

They're going back to "Spearhead From Space" on Sunday 19th February 2006. I was told in an email response from UKTV GOLD, the following:

Dear Mark,

Thank you for contacting UKTV Gold.

At present there are no plans to screen any more Tom Baker-era Doctor Who episodes. The Jon Pertwee series will run until the end of April so we may look into reacuiring the licence to screen the Tom Baker episodes from May but there are no definite plans in place at this time.

Yours sincerely,

Richard
UKTV Gold

I was also told this in another email:

We are only able to show each episode a certain number of times under
our current licence and in the case of Tom Baker's stories all the
episodes have been shown the maximum number of times with the exception
of "The Face of Evil" which is why we are showing that episode on
Saturday 18th February.

Yours sincerely,

Richard
UKTV Gold

So I reckon they'll get the license back (probably take all of May) so they'll show odd episodes then, and whatnot. I going to record the entire Jon Pertwee era (which will include FRONTIER IN SPACE) except no DALEKS Frown but then I hope they show Tom Baker's era again and S.McCoys n Peter Davisons, I have all the C.Bakers eps recorded. But I hope they show em again. They can no longer show "ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN" OR "THE TWO DOCTORS", NO WORRIES THOUGH, "THE TWO DOCTORS" IS OUT ON DVD, AND "ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN IS BEING RELEASED SOON1
BRING BACK TOM BAKER TO UKTV GOLD!!!!!!!!

Yes bring back some of the Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee epsidodes. I think they should show them in episodic format also. The cliffhanger was what made classic Doctor Who.

Hi,

We're showing the Jon Pertwee episodes from mid-February and it will take us quite a while to get through all of them.

I expect the Tom-Baker episodes will return to Gold at some stage but can't provide any specific dates at this time.

Ignoring the fact that I do all my best "creative" work early on the weekend mornings, I just love Dr Who...all incarnations, although I must admit a preference for Tom Baker.

The ony reason I even got cable was to watch Dr Who, so come on guys, don't let me waste mu money...bring 'em all back Big Grin

Hi everyone,
As a life long Doctor Who fan, I too welcome it's return to our screens. I am just curious why UK GOLD can show the New Dalek stories, but not the ones from the classic series. Presumably it's some complicated contractual reason, but it would be nice if there were no gaps in the repeats.
I'm also unsure why Attack of the Cybermen and The Two Doctors can not be shown - presumably this is due to the violence portrayed the the episodes Develish

A big thanks to UK GOLD for showing the Pertwee Dr Who's, I am enjoying these at the moment. A person from UK GOLD did email me and say there was an issue with the license so it may be difficult to show some of the early Hartnell and Troughton series. However, it would be great if they could bring them back, even if they did show them late at night as they did before. I was brought up on Tom Baker so hopefully he will also make an appearance soon but as I said its the really old classics that I love. Best regards, David. Smile

Hello everybody, im new here.

I like some of the doctors - the early stuff was great -( liked hartnell - infact he looked like a doctor who - if you understand me, old and mysterious - but knew everything, i beleive the bbc got the balance right with hartnell) ,troughton, pertwee and those giant spiders, they actually did scare the life out of me when i was about 6 yrs old - yes he was my era.

Tom baker was also great, then for me anyway - it went aweful . I did not like davidson, mcoy or whatever his name is - and really the new doctors didnt do much eather for me anyway - altho the new guy shows promise - the guy in the xmas special, but its far to early to say at the moment.

Please get rid of the black guy - he to me is like a splinter on an otherwise awesome table (why do they keep having him show his face in who? he really has no real weight in the storyline - i want to see the doctor in more sereal , weird surroundings - if you want to make it look cheesy in a studio do it - too much cgi imo ruins who.

Please could they make who more scary - i find the background music an annoyance, cant they just do it like the old days? ie incidently flute now and again... im sure you understand what i mean by this small nit pick.

I too remember ukgold showing the black n white hartnell episodes and troutans, at about 1 am - the time didnt matter to me, since early who had more atmosphere, so the eary black n white shows coupled with the dead of night timing was a real scene setter, again - just my opinion.

think thats all...

sorry for spelling of names, but im not here for my english grammer exam. ;O)

dr who.why do they show that for.its only the longest running tv sci fi series ever.lets show the a team, rubbish episodes of the bill, the worst comedy ever the office, murder she wrote, rubbish films that sky don't want. etc.
i have beeen watching uk gold since in started in 1992 (the "uktvgold" logo was very small then also).i think all programs then were over 10 years old,now they were on bbc a few weeks ago.
now the programs are cheap rubbish, repeated 4 times a week & twice a day, the logo takes up half the screen & more some times.
LISTEN UK GOLD WE WANT DR WHO ON IN THE AFTERNOON NOT AT 6AM,WE WANT CLASSIC BRITISH PROGRAMS NOT THE RUBBISH YOU SHOW ALL DAY.
AND WE DON'T WANT NO STUPID RED DOT AND ORANGE LOGO RUNNING ACROSS THE SCREEN RUINING OUR PROGRAMS (WHICH WE PAY FOR).

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT THE LOGOS ARE THERE FOR COPYRIGHT REASON NOT FOR CHANNEL IDENTIFICATION LIKE U TELL US.

SORT IT OUT UKGOLD PLEASE.

i want to see these shown again please

blakes seven

Once UKTV GOLD have shown the Jon pertwee era (minus DALEKS might I add Angry Angry Angry )
they will not be showing classic DR WHO anymore. They are showing THE TWIN DILEMMA and THE ULTIMATE FOE then it's gone, I am annoyed, even if they showed just 80s who i'd be happy!!! c'mon uktv gold, what you guna show instead of who, more murder she wrote and my hero Confused Confused Confused

UKGold should understand that the classic doctor who is a big pull for Dr Who fans. If they do not cotinue to show it, they will make the same mistake as BBC1 in 1989 and loose our support. Do the right thing UKGold keep the classic series going with all the episodes whether colour or black and white. They are brilliant stories.

Perhaps RichardUKTV could explain why they are stopping the showing of Doctor Who? Has the BBC withdrawn that particular licence - are the BBC going to show these episodes? Is that why? I remember when my household first got UK Gold and as a young Dr Who fan I did not see anything much pre-Colin Baker. When I got the chance- it was just brilliant to watch classic Doctor Who stories, especially the b&w ones.

Isn't it a real shame that the "new fans" won't be getting to see these?

Oh well, sounds like Doctor Who is on the wane at UK Gold. A shame because it was the reason that I originally selected a cable package which included UK Gold. UK Gold have been showing Doctor Who since their inception(when they were BBC Choice), but no doubt they have a good reason for no longer showing it. Maybe we can have some second rate shows like Eastenders shown instead(as if it's not on the TV enough...) Angry

Did this mornings showing of The Monster of Peladon really freeze frame for 50 minutes and missed a big chunk of the story or did my DVD recorder malfunction . Will it be shown again if there was a transmission problem ?

Confused If UKYV GOLD do intend to review the showing of doctor who episodes they should look into a more convent time slot or possibly each week night showing one or two individual episodes each night in a hour time slot ?

Hello,
I agree with all the posts above as I only really started watching Doctor Who back in 2004 but already i'm obsessed, waiting nearly 2 hours for the new Doctor Who episodes and I've been up every morning without fail to watch it for the past year.

This is just a rough idea but they couldn't show the dalek episodes because the licensing had to be shared with Terry Nation, so they weren't allowed to show them.

I hope they do bring back the Tom Baker episodes as I've never really seen Tom baker (I've seen the complete set of McCoy and Pertwee following last week), I only saw 3 episodes throughout his entire 7 year era and I'm really interested to see them.

Please keep Doctor Who alive on UKTV!

Gazza2001 - I thought the same thing! I thought my hard drive recorder had frozen. Glad it was UKTV Gold (or Telewest?) and not my expensive equipment playing up!

Also - I REALLY HOPE UKTV GOLD CONTINUE WITH DOCTOR WHO AND SHOW THE FABLED TOM BAKER EPISODES! Big Grin

I have heard rumours that this will happen. Apparently Doctor Who gets really good ratings for such an early morning show so it's in GOLD's favour to continue!

After searching the net I can only find full listings up till the end of May 2006, but I think June's listings will soon appear! Fingers crossed! Wink

that's it, no more dr who on uktv gold, recorded THE ULTIMATE FOE when at church this morning, just hope that this is only a break. I doubt repeats of BALLYKISSANGEL and MURDER SHE WROTE will match the ratings of classic who!
