UKGold are removing threads they do not approve of and they are censoring the views of their viewers! I pay for this channel through subscription and my licence fee and I am entitled to show my disapproval of how they treat us!
Please can you show some good vintage programmes in order without cutting them and show all the series. How can you justify treating this channel like some cut and paste job, with random programmes that are constantly repeated?
Please can you go back to your old and very popular format? You have gone from being the best channel on cable to a joke, bring back some of your more experienced staff and go back to your GOLD roots.

Hello all,
Its been a while since I was on here but I am so glad to see the viewers getting militant! It’s about time that this poor excuse for a channel sat up and listened to what many of us have been saying for about 3 years now. UKGold has no respect for its viewers all it wants to do is show minimum programmes and get us to pay money to text into those stupid votes, I watched Only Fools on Tuesday and then on Wednesday I was flicking through at the same only to see the same episode on what’s that about? It was on yesterday for gods sake do you really think we have the attention span of a goldfish and can’t remember what happened yesterday?
Don’t even get me started on Dallas, it’s the only good bit of programming in years and then they replace it with Dr Who that is on BBC1 & BBC3 at the same time! Morons the lot of them, and why is Tribe on surely that is better suited to UKDocumentary?
Grrrr so angry!

Message to UKTVGold authorities......
Hi Sam, Actually I have worked as a professional in the media for 15 years, including advertising and broadcast, I do understand how media companies work and that is what makes me so angry with UKGold because I know what goes on, in fact I have even been a temp at UKTV many years ago. Don't presume that we are all morons because we watch this channel, we are entitled to an opinion,it is after all my human right to complain about this further dumbing down of tv. How can you possibly justify the incredible amount of repeats and terrible scheduling that UK G come up with..they drop shows half way through the series, change the times of programmes, repeat the same episode maybe 10 times a week. that is no way to run a business nor keep a loyal viewing public. I fully understand your point that they have constraints but it is beyond a joke. All they have to do is put on a bit of programme variety (not only fools over and over agian - as much as I love it) maybe even air the shows at regular times and let the series run through to the end, don't start repeating it half way through. It is not rocket science, just the ineptitude of UKTV.

Message to UKTVGold authorities......
Hi Babydoll, You are right it is a shame as I for one used to watch UKGold all the time and not just dip in and out for the odd show as that is what kind of channel it used to be. You wouldn’t go brain dead watching it as there was a good variety of programming on. Then some fresh out of marketing college bod comes up with the bright idea of rebranding the channel, marketing to the yoof and repeating the same shows over and over and over again, whilst trying to rip them off with phone ins about Comedy Superheroes.
However having seen that Dallas is on again… something I remember begging for last year, I went home and watched it and was very pleased so maybe they have realised that their viewing figures are now smaller than the community channel’s and have decided to listen to us. But I wouldn’t hold my breath!
Also please bring back Prisoner Cell Block H – it has a HUGE cult following and more people would watch it than some repeat of the Vicar of Dibley!

Message to UKTVGold authorities......
Its been a long time since I bothered to write into this forum but I’m glad to see the complaints are still coming in!!! I tried last year to bring this to UKTV’s attention but was completely ignored. UK Gold is a shadow of its former self… I too used to watch in the 90’s but very rarely bother now what with ITV3’s excellent vintage programming. What I find so funny is this endless ways of recycling the same shows they come up with using different marketing ploys designed to get you to spend money voting on something you voted for last month. Really underhand and cynical – they just want to appeal to the younger generation and get them to spend their pocket money on rip off phone-ins. I have children in their teens and they also think UKTV is rubbish. I would love to be a regular viewer again so please put on old Eastenders, Brookside, Dynasty, Dr Who and not shows that have just aired on the BBC last week. It is a waste of money for me to subscribe to UKTV I might as well just stick with freeview!

UKTV Gold... Just what is it's game?!
I can't believe this is true why are they going to rewind Eastenders to 1997? From that point onwards the show seriously deteriorated to the useless mess we have to endure today, after watcing it from the first episode on BBC1 I have now stopped because there is no point as the storylines are pathetic. What is wrong with UK Gold why are they treating their viewers so badly, is their reasoning money or is it just that only kids now watch the channel and they woud not be able to watch something so old, I don't know I am baffled! They show endless repeats of the same old episodes packaged under some weekend rubbish, useless channel. Time to switch to ITV3 I think!!
Rewind to 1985 and bring back some good old shows of all kinds!!!
Mon 3 Jul 2006, 2.19PM
I agree with all that is said here! What a waste of channel space, please make UK GOLD GOLD again! It is total rubbish and I rarely watch it... I have this vain hope that they will become good again and start showing some real vintage stuff instead of all this useless recent nonsense.
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO LISTEN TO THIS MESSAGE BOARD?
Wed 31 May 2006, 11.14AM
Knock out comedy - just another excuse to show the same programmes and make money on people voting its an absolute disgrace! Shame on you and your marketing department..
Wed 31 May 2006, 10.52AM
Eastenders was a fantastic show, that has now become a politically correct pantomime, please show the old ones because they are a fascinating insight into the past and had many gritty storylines tackling the issues of the day, rather than endless lesbian love triangles and gangsters, yawn.
I understand what people are saying about too many soaps, on UKTVG...(etc etc) + 1 hour but I think that is because these programmes have just been aired recently on the BBC and there is not enough other quality programming to balance it out.
How about a vintage soap channel and leave Gold for QUALITY comedy and drama? Please before I switch off never to return, when I do watch UKTV I purposly turn over when the ads are on so I don't have to be marketed to by a channel that I already pay for and that treats its viewers like idiots.

UKTV Gold... Just what is it's game?!
Hi David,
I will have to take your word for that!!!
But seriously please put on some good programmes...every time I look at this forum there seem to large amounts of messages from people begging you not to take certain shows off the air, which you do anyway and then you replace them with Murder she wrote??? Its inexplicable...whats going on, all we ask for is some good GOLD shows. Stick on a nice bit of Dallas and some old Eastenders, not forgeting Dr Who and Baywatch and you might get some really positive posts! (in fact just show all the programmes you used to)

What shows do you want to see on Alibi?
Hi Richard,
Thank you for putting Tenko on again, much appreciated.
Do you have any information regarding 'The woman in black' by Susan Hill, it was on either BBC2 or ITV about 10 years ago and has never been repeated, very scary and I would love to see it again if possible, also the MR James ghost stories recently shown on BBC4. (These are the kind of quality repeats I don't mind!!!)
Thanks

UKTV Gold... Just what is it's game?!
Hi Damien,
Yes I do work in the media, first in broadcast and now in advertising, so I have a very good understanding of how the media works and that is precisily why I am so angry at UKTV for what they have done to their channels. Unfortunately the media industry is run by fresh out of uni kids with a degree in media studies and not much else by way of intelligence, they are just clones with no individualism and you are over the hill by the time you reach 25, UKTV is dumbed down like everything else available to the British public these days.
As much as I love some of the shows aired I would like a bit of variety on occaision I spend alot of money on cable tv and would like to see it being spent on proper vintage shows rather than something that has just been on terrestrial tv only weeks before. I have asked for many good shows only to be told that there isnt a market for them, so how come most posts on this website are requesting the same thing? Take Dallas for example, not high brow BBC4 stuff but a classic of its time and very entertaining it was aired on UKTV for years, now its trendy again they are making a movie version and you can get some episodes on DVD, clearly this is a popular show so why is it not on Gold now? It makes no sense to me to air repeats of My Family and Two Pints (Awful) that have just been on BBC 1 & 3, who is going to watch it?
I understand the problems that UKTV has and that they have survive in a competitive and changing media industry, but they won't if they continue churning out the repetitive rubbish that they are subjecting us to, I used to watch UKGold all the time but now only very occasionally, when there are true classics on.
I also wish that we could all have a good discussion about classic TV, but if there isn't any being shown then how can we talk about it?

Bring back Cell block H!
Much better than two pints of larger!!!

UKTV Gold... Just what is it's game?!
Fair point Richard, and thank you for replying. I only want to bring to your attention that there are so many good programmes that your channels could show and I feel it is a lost opportunity to use your 4 Gold channels in such a way that only emphisises how cheap, nasty and clumsly thought out the UKTV programming is. Good programmes shown in series order with minimum repeats per month would keep it fresh and interesting. How hard can it be?
Sat 25 Feb 2006, 12.58PM
Just because the average age of your veiwers has gone down it does not mean that they are stupid. Show some good vintage programmes and no recent repeats form the BBC that is all that we ask.
Sat 25 Feb 2006, 12.55PM
Please start Eastenders from the beginning. Please please please, it was so much better then.
Sat 25 Feb 2006, 12.52PM
That series was fantastic and responsible for me starting a degree in Geosciences, I would also love to get a copy of the entire earth story series having missed the recent day of it. You can get an accompanting book which I bought when it was on the BBC years ago, you can probably get a copy on Amazon. But I canot find the DVD anywhere.
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 1.16PM
Boring boring boring little britain rip off. Not Gold but modern.
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 1.15PM
Boring unfunny dry useless comedy that does not warrent being on UK Gold as it is only a couple of years old and wasn't even funny when it was on BBC1.
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 1.13PM
yawn.....seen them already on BBC2...just the other day.
Not very GOLD is it?
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 1.10PM
Why dont you have dedicated chanels for each genre?
UK Gold
Aussie & US Gold
Soap channel
Another channel for rubbish modern stuff like my family, two pints of poo and catherine tate (boring) and sport
and leave the wonderful UK drama as it is
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 1.01PM
Lets all strike and not watch this poor excuse for a TV channel - maybe they will listen to us then?
Don't fob us off with useless excuses as to why you can't show decent programmes - I don't normally write into anything but I am so infurtiated by the attitude of UKTV that I have to do something. Every time I flick through my channels and see the drivel being offered to us viewers I want to cancel my telewset subscription and get freeview instead.
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 12.52PM
Appauling waste of space totally useless programme, that just is not funny.
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 12.45PM
UKTV Gold... Just what is it's game?!
No you wouldnt have to take it off the air, as I have said before show them alongside each other. what are you going to do when it catches up with current eastenders just show a daily episode like BBC1? Do you not pay attention to the requests posted on this website, your viewers would rather watch vintage programmes than relatively recent ones that we have just seen on terrestrial TV. I swear I cannot take another episode of 2 pints of larger, my family or catherine tate and I find your excuses rather feeble. The truth is these shows are too expensive to run and you would rather save money and show endless repeats of truly dire tv shows that should never have been commissioned in the first place. The soap drama on gold at the moment is stale and boring how about something different for a change? Perhaps now you have new channel head things might get better, if not you will see a huge drop in veiwing figures as there are many other channels out there offering the same programmes as UKGold.
Tue 14 Feb 2006, 12.23PM
I agree with you all!! Although I'm not the biggest Baywatch fan it was much more enjoyable to watch than yet another repeat of My Family followed by Two Pints of Larger, Catharine Tate and Little Britain as these appear to be the only programmes that are shown on UKGold because they are rubbish and cheap.
How about a stike from the loyal viewers lets all agree not to bother watching these appauling four channels untill they start putting some true Gold on the channel, after all you won't be missing out on any programmes as you can watch the same shows on BBC3 for free! That is the only way they will listen to us once their precious advertising revenue is lost.
Wed 8 Feb 2006, 1.31PM
Obviously you didn't watch Eastenders in its heyday, it really was a good show. Unfortunatly it has turned into a joke these days and is more like a caricature of its former self. The early episodes are a fascinating insight into cultural attitudes at the time and there were some fantastic story lines. I personally think the BBC don't want to air the old episodes because it will show us how much it has deteriorated and that the storylines today are just repeats of what they have done before. Please show vintage episodes of Eastenders alongside the newer ones, that way you can please us all.
Wed 8 Feb 2006, 1.18PM
What shows do you want to see on Alibi?
I would also love to see the very chilling one off drama "The Woman in Black" it was last shown on TV in the early 90's and I can't seen to find it on DVD anywhere.
Sat 4 Feb 2006, 3.44PM
What shows do you want to see on Alibi?
The Mitfords
Tenko
Upstairs Downstairs
Tales of the Unexpected
Hammer Horror films
Any old Dallas or Dynasty or Aussie soaps (Although not UK made)
Run in the correct order of series.
Sat 4 Feb 2006, 3.33PM
Old soaps would be great to watch... why do we want to see programmes from after 2002? Too many repeats will have to cancel my subscription as I can get the same shows on BBC for free!
Sat 4 Feb 2006, 3.27PM
UKTV Gold... Just what is it's game?!
Richard I don't know how you can justify saying that showing repeats of recently aired BBC shows can possibly do better with audiences than repeats of classic shows from the 70's 80's & 90's that haven't been seen for years. Why doesn't UKTV listen to what people are saying here?
You do not cater for a wide ranging audience, your programming is targeted for 12-16 year olds with the attention span of a flea. I am so dispointed by UK gold these days it infuriates me and now UKTVG2 has started showing Top Gear, Airport & Life of Grime I have come to the conclusion that you have in fact run out of programmes!
Why don't you rebrand like ITV, you could have one mainstream channel, something for the kids, another one for those with more than one brain cell and maybe even a genuine vintage channel! Just a thought.
PS - Bring back Dallas, Cell Block H, vintage Eastenders & Neighbours & some quality drama series, put them on at a decent time and you could actually increase your viewing figures.
Thu 22 Dec 2005, 11.14AM
I agree, what a brilliant series my family look forward to watching them every year. Christmas wouldn't be the same without Fanny Cradock we have even bought some of her cookbooks!
I don't suppose there are any other programmes that she made that could also be shown?

Yes got to agree with Neighbours fan, please show the old episodes of both Neighbours & Eastenders I don't see how showing old & new at the same time would be a problem as there is about 20 years in between them. I am one of those fans Richard talks about and have no issue with it. PS. Bring back Dallas & Dynasty and all is forgiven! Show them at a proper time of day too, don't assume that all soap watchers are people who sit at home all day with nothing better to do - I am out at work all day and would love to watch some proper tv at night not youth orientated rubbish.

Neighbours On UKTV Gold - Australia's Longest Running Soap
Please show the old Neighbours again, I can't understand why UK Gold doesn't utilise the great archive of shows it has and continues to show new stuff - it really makes no sense to me
Tue 13 Dec 2005, 12.39PM
I would have to agree as well, even though I love Dallas etc I do not have a problem with the US shows being on a dedicated channel. What I think is most important though is for UK Gold to show programmes on a rotating basis and to run the entire series at a time. My brain is also numb from watching the same stuff over and over again, I no longer watch the channel and will not untill they sort the scheduling out. UK Gold your viewers are not fools and will desert you if you don't do something about it!

Why can't you show old episodes of Eastenders alongside the new? It would make for much more interesting viewing than recent more shows, also the Eastenders at Christmas are just the same programmes every year. Try showing Dallas at 9pm instead of the same repeats day after day and see how good the viewing figures are!

u.k gold washes away audience figures with too many soaps
Very true, as I stated in an earlier post, what is the point in watching repeats of shows that have just aired on terrestrial tv...isn't that what BBC3 is for? I am already so bored with Little Britain having seen the first series about 8 times now. UK Gold used to be so good, it was practically the only channel I watched, now I hardly ever bother. Ever since you rebranded and obviously stuck some fresh out of uni type in the role of programme scheduler your channel has become dire.
Again with the soaps, please show us the old ones it used to be great watching old Eastenders & Neighbours and now all you give us is these Eastenders weekenders showing the same "classic" shows over and over again and alot of them are modern ones with Kat & Alfie, how dull and only of interest to those under 18. I have seen Den serve Angie divorce papers enough times this year, how about showing us all the episodes leading up to it instead? Please stop the recent episodes and show us some good vintage classics!

Hi,
I have been watching UK Gold since the early 90's and it was always my favourite channel. However recently I have stopped watching it because both UK Gold & UKG2 are full of constant repeats of recent shows from terrestrial TV and the schedulers seem to think that the only people who want to watch it are young teenage boys. I mean how many times can you watch Have I got News for you, 2 pints of larger and Jonathan Ross, can we please have a bit of vareity in the schedules and no repeats of what has just been shown on the BBC the week before?
Please stop marketing to the youth and give some of us people in our 30's something decent to watch, like the classic old series, Tenko, Upstairs Downstairs, Shine on Harvey Moon, The Mitfords etc and don't stick them on at 3 O'Clock in the morning.
How about the shows like Dallas, Dynasty, Prisoner Cell Block H, all brilliant classic 80's fun and what about showing Eastenders & Neighbours from the beginning instead of modern programmes from 2002?
It really does prove that quantity does not mean quality, since you expanded with your curiously named UKTVG2+1Hr etc channels the programmes have deteriorated, perhaps you could turn one of them into a dedicated vintage channel instead of just another chance to watch repeats from the previous hour.
UKTV Drama is a good substitue with quality shows but again why do you have just one channel for it and 4 for UK Gold, two of which are the + 1 hour...and don't even get me started on UKTV Sport - as if we don't have enough of that already, give it a dedicated channel too!
Please can someone respond to this and let me know if there is any point in watching UKG again, or would you prefer the lost advertising revenue?
