Hi i would like any ideas for my three year olds bedroom. I don't want anything tv character based as that would drive me nuts. noice bright and bold i'm searching for! He loves purple but wouldn't that be to dark? He loves anything to do with diggers, jcb's and cranes. Anybody just done their boys room any ideas? thanks carol

Hi there. You say you don't want anything tv character based but your boy likes diggers and cranes etc. Doesn't Bob the Builder fit the bill? Are you any good at art? Could you paint a bright yellow digger on the wall for him? This could be easily painted over when he outgrew this "digger" fascination. If you don't like that idea - you say he likes purple. Well lilac is a variation of the same colour. Bright lilac with contrasting paintwork - lemon maybe? B&Q stock a good variety of kiddies borders. Maybe there's a builders theme one available. Good luck. Jill Smile

Hi

Just to let you know Focus Do It All do a smashing border which features trucks diggers etc., it has a blue background and features bright primary colours, one of which you'd be able to utilise in your base coat for the walls. You could always try painting a road on the walls and let him choose where he wants to apply shapes (trucks) cut from the self adhesive border upon the road.

you could just base the whole room on a building site- that doesn't sound very promising and suitable I know, but you could add some smily faces to the diggers etc.

I have a 2 1/2 year old son. I have recently decorated his room. The top half of the wall is a sky, painted blue with clouds, stars and stamped aeroplanes. The bottom half of his wall is the grass painted green and with trees painted onto it. I painted a thick wavy line around the middle of the wall with blackboard paint and this is the road onto which I stamped cars. You might be able to get digger stick-a-rounds which you could put on the road. Next used to do them but I don't know if they still do. Hope this helps!

I HAVE JUST DECORATED MY 4 YEAR OLD SONS BEDROOM USING STICK AROUNDS FROM FOCUS DIY. THEY STOCK LOTS OF DIFFERENT THEMES BUT I USED ONE WITH DIGGERS, TRUCKS AND ROAD SIGNS. 9.99 FOR PACK OF 40 SOMETHING AND THEY ARE REMOVABLE TOO. I KEPT THE WALLS NEUTRAL AND TOOK THE MAIN COLOURS FROM THE STICKERS, ORANGE, BLUE, GREEN, AS ACCENT COLOURS FOR CURTAINS, & ACCESSORIES. LOOKS REALLY GOOD BUT CAN BE CHANGED EASILY WHEN HE OUTGROWS IT.

My boys share a room (2 and 4 years) i have painted top half sky blue all round and one wall has sea at the bottom(with fish), one wall has hills in green(with trees and flowers) and one wall has yellow sand(with diggers etc) the boys each have a favourite wall and their beds are next to that one.
P.S. the celing has glow in the dark stars on

I love purple too, (but then I am a teenage girl!) and it doesn't have to be dark at all!

As someone further up suggested, Lilac is a good variation and its a neutral colour too, not too girlish or boyish!

If ur son decides he wants a darker shade of purple then why not paint just one wall? and paint the other in sky blue or lemon? My bedroom walls are painted Bahama blue by Crown (I think?) with a lilac ceiling and I absolutely love it!!

Pictures of diggers etc should be readily available on the net and self-adhesive paper can be bought for the printer, if u want a DIY approach, although this may not be so easy to remove, later on!

Good Luck xx

BOYS BOYS BOYS!!!!

I have a horror of a 4 year old myself, I say that as he only had his room decorated last year, digger style, and now wants a space theme!!

I seriously recomend that you consider the NEXT interiors Catalogue as they have some lovely duvets etc, one of the ranges they do is DIGGERS CRANES ETC.

The colours are a dark blue (close to purple!!) turquoise, yellow and bright green.

I actually drew the diggers out onto MDF, cut out and painted them, you can update old cupboards toy boxes etc by sticking them on.

Maybe just paint the purple onto chest of drawers etc and Jazz them up with diggers and crane cutouts, I reckon yellow cranes and diggers would look wicked on purple!! Maybe turquoise on the walls.
I wouldnt recommend spending time on painting pictures all over the wall as little ones change their minds very quickly and it is gutting when they insist you have to paint over it when they want a new theme!!

My son is now 14 and we have had a myriad of theme designs. Our approach was simple. We selected 1-2 neutral colours and the theme items to be easliy changable. As his tastes changed, the decoration changed but the wall colours stayed the same. This also makes it easy to repair the wall colour because you won't need to custom match colours.
