hi if you have a wilkinson store near you they sell the dye in there and it has all the info you need ! it will tell you how much salt you need ! ( this makes the dye stick to your fabric). and how much to use for certain shades. good luck !

I can never forget the lovely Linda Barker dyeing curtains in the bath. I thought it had put everyone off for life.

Hi Les
I remember that incident! She had to give up on it in the end as the fabric went patchy.
I think you get a better result using a washing machine.

Hi Oak,

The dye companies can be a mine of information, so do not be afraid to give them a ring, especially if you are after a particular shade as they will offer advice on this as well.

Good luck

P.S. Remember to put your machine on at least two rinse cycles after you have finished using it to dye the materials to avoid contaminating the rest of your families clothes...

The washing machine dyes are very good for cotton curtains- I have used the lilac. You do need salt the pack will say how much, and depending on how much curtain you might need more than one pack of dye.

Basically, you wash the curtains, take them out and put the dye and salt in the drum. Then put curtains in and run wash cycle (no w/powder). When all finished run a hot wash cycle with w/powder but empty drum to clean the machine.Leaflets explaining the process in full are usually available where you get the dye, or you might find them online at Dylon.

Good fun, Trisha
