Has anyone ever heard of putting sponge pieces into a hanging basket mixed with compost for retaining moisture or has anyone any more ideas on this subject , thankyou . . . . Julie

Hi Julie,I was reading Amatuer Gardening today and Christine Walkden, she as a programe called "Christine's Garden" on tv, and she was saying how she cuts up old sponges and puts them in her hanging baskets I guess you couldn't get better recommendation than that..

You can also use oasis or florists' foam or you can buy the swelling crystals that do the same thing.
