hiya, hope i'm not too late, didn't see this thread first time around!! i recently read a great book, caled 'The Atlantis Enigma' by Herbie Brennan. it looks into the possibility that the prophesies that were forseen by Plato are true, and about the search for Atlantis. its a bit dificult to get into, but once you are past the first chapter, it's fab, puts alot of questions in your mind, and makes you think!! i certainly couldn't put it down, maybe thats why i didnt get a very good mark for my project i was doing at that time!!! lol. there is a second one, but i haven't read it yet. It's an oldish book, so you might need to go to the larger libraries to find it. well worth it!! i suggest everyone borrows it from the library, then at least if u dont like it, u haven't spent anything!!!
anyway, i wont spoil the ending, just to say, the book mentions an asteroid, and why Mercury is so tiny compared to the rest of the planets, and the gap that is between two other planets. so there, READ IT!!!! :D

I love all of Patricia Cornwell's books. They are all about forensics (in novel form). For anybody that likes this sort of thing, they are really good. Still struggling with the new message boards!!!

I have just had one of those book club (world books) come through again - but this time I notice that they have the House Doctors book - so I think I will give it another go... I can always cancel...

If you all like Dean Koontz
the you should try Richard Laymon. He is
even better at horror books.

I havent read any Maeve Binchy. They arent really my thing.

My favourite author is Shaun Hutson. He writes crime/horror books with just a lil slant on the occult. I love them! But they are really REALLY gory and there have been times I've had to skip bits cuz they have been TOO gory.

Although Shaun Hutson is my fave author, my favourite book is ARCHANGEL by a lady called Sharon Shinn. Its a kinda love story between and angel and a human and its a fantasy love/hate story. I've read it about 7 times and my copy is well thumbed now Smile (I must get Jon to buy me another copy to go in our bookcase Smile )

I highly recommend this book.

Oh...and I keep up to date with the Star Wars books too Smile

Why Aye bonny lass Juliet8! "Strangers" is un put downable. I couldn't get to grips with "Lightening". "Watchers" is amazing I am about to start the second of a trilogy. The first was "FEar Nothing" and the second is "Sieze the Night" about a guy who is an albino and only goes out in the dark. I've read some Stephen King and enjoyed all of them. I enjoy a good read but I don't get a lot of spare time. Usually I take a book when we jaunt off to Looe. I'm just finishing a lovely cornish story by Rosamunde Pilcher. See u L8R on the chatty? :D

Hey, I was going to mention Dean Koontz but you got there first, Jill! Smile I don't think I've heard of 'Strangers'...is it a new one?? My favourite is 'Lightning'...a love story set within a time travel storyline...different eh? Really funny, at times, totally gripping. If you like Stephen King, you'll love Dean Koontz (p.s. Jill, have you noticed Dean seems to have some kind of fetish about 'Tupperware', by the way? Usually have body parts in them though... Smile )

Ian and I both read loads of books.
He is usually buried in Anne McCaffrey or David Gemmell. Im like Anji, I read Meave Binchy. I did read a few of Ians Anne McCaffery PERN novels. Not quite my style, but fairly enjoyable.

I absolutely love anything by Will Self, James Kelman or Philip Roth. Read 'How the Dead Live', Self's most recent novel. It's ridiculously well-written and absolutely hilarious.

I don't often get time out to read a lot but when I do I can't keep my hands off Dean Koontz! No, I'm not at that "funny age" but his books are really can't-put-downable. My favourite is Strangers. It's about 700 pages long but once I got into it I just read it until I'd finished. For those 5 days no one got fed and no dusting was done, but hey!, If I'm off work on hols, time's no ones. "Watchers" was another of his that I couldn't put down. I could relate to every character. We didn't have a hol this summer(if you have been reading the messages over the past few weeks you'll know I've had major wall building problems in the garden! Dean is a bit of a spooky, spine chilling author but it makes you wonder - is all this possible.......I'm a bit of a hippy kind of chick so I like to think that there is another world out there. If you like the romantic kind of read, Rosamund Pilcher is lovely. Quite a contrast to Dean but equally as gripping. Happy reading. Jill :D
