Hi, I just bought some Gazania plants for a couple of tubs in my front garden. I know they may not last very much longer but have read that they can be treated as perenials.but as they like hot weather and i live in Yorkshire in the North of England, I am wondering what i should do with them to try and make sure they survive the frosts and our cold cold winter? do i mulch? or bring indoors? i dont have a greenhouse.

Gazanias are short lived perenials--you could propagate from a cutting( on your window sill) or take seeds. They could over winter but I wouldnt bother

Hi Captain, thanks for that information. ill leave them in their pots till spring then sort from there. possibly just replace with other bedding plants. they are still showing some flowers.being disabled with no transport i have problems getting to garden centres so really need plants that dont need replacing every year. but would like something with some colour other than green.I have plenty of evergreens as it is.heathers, small bushes, rockery plants etc.
thanks again

OK--here are two plants for you

OXALIS SUNSET

OXALIS BURGUNDY

One is yellow tother is youve guessed, burgundy! Easiest plants in the world to grow, cuttings route in water but are not hardy. Slightlty rare. You will find then om ebay at start of season at about a £1 a plant (and many others) They flower all summer and I do mean all summer and end up about 10 times bigger. I am going to use them entirely for front of border next year because they are spectacular and everyone says-never seen then before!!!

They are not hardy.

If you cannot get out I recomend Thompson and Morgan and their plug or small plants, that catalogues make great reading too!

By the way as you are disabled, do you know about the Motability scheme which could provide you or someone you know with a car to take you out?
