Hi,

I am completely new to this broad but would love some advice. I moved into my house 1 year ago and the garden is full of mature bushes, trees and hedges that have not really been maintained for the last 10 years!!! Anyway I am looking to redesign the garden and would like to know if I can successfully transfer some Laurels that are around 2 years old from one part of the garden to another to allow a good screen from the main road. Is this something that they will survive successfully or do I need to purchase new ones?

Any advise would be great as I am quite new at the gardening thing but am enjoying it so far Tongue

Hi Deb191,

I too am completely new to this board and read your message and had a sense of deja vu. I too have moved into a new house with a garden that fits your very description and I've never had a garden on such a large scale before and find the whole thing a bit overwhelming.

I also have laurel although mine is already a biggish hedge acting as a screen from the road. I've found that it grows really fast and I had to do some significant cutting in order to stop it swamping the public path on the other side. Just try to move them and see what happens, they seem like quite a robust plant and have amazed me how quickly mine have grown in the short time I've been living here.

Do you know anything about trimming/getting rid of lilac? its suckered everywhere!! Eek

Dig out lilac. Weed killer will affect host plant and you may not wish to lose that. Of course you will need to dig each year but be persistant.
