I enjoy this program,'Dig for Victory', but am amazed at what the allotment owners seem to be allowed to do on their sites.
On My site, No Alcohol, sheds not encouraged and very restricted in size if you want to erect one. Bonfires only at certain times. do it yourself compost heaps not encouraged,(but not yet banned) they prefer plastic type. The annual barbecue has gone by the wayside, all the restrictions killed the enthusiasm for it. Not a great deal of community spirit on our site. When my wife (75yrs old) and I won first prize for the allotment two years running there was a lot of ill feeling(not everyone), so they changed the rules and the judge so that we would not win again. Having said all this, we love our allotment and hope to keep going as long as possible. Just wish ours was in as good areas as you have been showing.
cheers Keep digging

i enjoyed that program too, and was impressed at the dedication of everyone. and what lovely characters. i also liked very much 'the big dig' with the lovely welsh allotmenteers.
but it did confirm for me that i wouldnt be able to manage a plot as well as my garden, no matter how good the cuppas! Big Grin
