I agree that leylandii, or any conifer can be a nuisance but they are often a barrier from unsightly properties built too close with small gardens.
I have a conifer screen kept to 3m high. I considered bamboo but see they are also in the top ten hates.
Can you suggest an alternative screen at the end of a garden so we are not overlooked or feel we are staring into someone's living room.
