I'm pleased that Jun is presenting , I love to watch him cooking ,he's very good at explaining what to do and how to do it , much better than Matt . I would have liked Clodagh to have replaced Diana, I enjoy her stints on the show , and I did find Diana a little grating , rather JB dare I say ?
I did'nt enjoy watching Aggie in the market , I think she's very game , but she's not a chef and I did'nt rate her burgers , I don't want celebrities guesting to cook , otherwise the day could dawn when Katie Price or Kerry Katona decide to show us what they can do ...horrors !!
I still prefer the combination of TPB and Matthew Fort , slightly more relaxed . Matt T has improved and I like him.

Jun has such an air of serenlty when presneting. He is so cogent and lucid that you immediately "get" what he's doing. I used to love when he was on gFL and it's great he's on Market Kitchen - is he permanent or just yet another "trial" presenter?

Like jackw, I also do not want "celebrities" cooking on any programme, much less MK. I'm sick to death of over-exposed, telegenic "talent" being thrust upon us constantly. Let's keep it real, please.

Aggie was dreadful.

How do you feel that it seems be a celebration of MasterChef next week with pop singer Paul Young and Thommy Miers as the guest chefs

Masterchef was enough of THOSE two, thank you very much. It's as if Market Kitchen has decided to take lessons from The Sun or The Mirror. Tabloid cooking show?

It's just offensive how they take what is ostensibly supposed to be a serious cooking show and degrade it to childish celebrity worship. Mindless.

Programming for the attention-span challenged. Trash television.

I think Ching He-Huang would make a great presenter too - very different from Merrilees, but I think they would each add a lot to the show through their own styles of cooking and personalities.

Ching has an amazing effect on men - anyone remember the effect she had on Tony Tobin on the other side? He said: "I'm going to get slaughtered by my wife when I get home!" He was all of a dither! Wink

No problem with Thommy , I quite like her style , and ok , she's not yet a "real " chef , as in "learnt her craft from the floor up , " but she's interesting and amusing , she's learnt a lot since Masterchef , no , I think she's extremely watchable . Paul Young ? Sorry , no . This is taking us down the Aggie road .
I want to watch , learn and most of all enjoy the programme , and I always have . The odd chef I do find irritating , or don't particually like , but then they would proberbly say the same about me , so thats fine , but lets stick to chefs , and other experts in their field , be it producers , restauranters etc .Not celebrities . There's enough rubbishy celebrity type stuff around , magazines , programmes showing how with minimum intelligence and few language skills , you too can thrill the brain cell of some viewers !
Lets keep Market Kitchen , and UK TV food in general for those that like to be educated as well as entertained .

I am a big fan of Ching.

I am also a big fan of Thommy,,i really enjoyed both of her CH4 series.

I think whats been fun this week is how jovial and honest everyone has been when critising the food. I guess this comes from them all been freinds. I didn't realise Jun and Mat trained under Marco Peirre White.

Chefs from GFL i would like to see on MK are Ed Baines, Maria Ella and Mike Robinson.

My first choice for presenters would be: Jun, Merrilees, Ed Baines and Ching - each having very distinct cooking stlyes, but all being personalities that work with other people well.

They are all good at engaging with their viewers, rather than just talking at the camera.

I think they would make a great team.

Oh, and if you could get rid of those ear jarring guitar riffs - I think that would help too Smile Thank you.

Interesting that some of the feedback seems to be 'stick to chefs' - well that would exclude a number of successful individuals - Tamasin Day-Lewis, Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson, Delia Smith, Silvana Franco - none of whom are chefs, but all of whom make their living in the culinary world. Paul Young may actually be an expert in his new chosen field - certainly in comparison to a large percentage of the public. If he's rubbish, then I suspect that he won't be invited back.

I was at the studio when Paul Young was there cooking. I'm not a great lover sea food, but what he cooked tasted wonderful. He was a nice guy to chat too. Smile

"very different from [Merrilees], but I think they would each add a lot to the show through their own styles of cooking and personalities"

Is this not the same Merrilees who was castigated from start to finish of a new half hour show that had the audacity to replace GF Bites.
She was accused of everything that Tana has been slated with and more. Yet now she can add a lot to the show?

Have good memories or make notes please.

Wasn't suggesting you at all "G".
You are one of the ,"think before send" posters. Wink Smile

Just a general comment really about how fickle some people are. This time she is not replacing that ex-presenter so she is now OK.

When is Silvana Franco expected to make an appearance on MK?????? Confused I mean is she or isn't she one of the new presenters FGS!!! Roll Eyes

Managed to watched finally MK late last night because of Tommy Miers, I'm a big fan!

I have to say it was a great show yesterday except that Paul Young, eh...what on earth is he doing on the show anyway???? Roll Eyes

He learnt a bit of cooking from Masterchef & HK, so what ....doesn't mean he's entitled to showcase his substandard food on a primetime show like MK...jeezzz!!!!

Wake up producers!!!! Roll Eyes

PS - NOT CHING....NO WAY!!!! She's equivalent of Paul Young cooking a very sub-standard chinese food that my 15 year old niece can do 10x better!! She's actually giving all those chinese cooks in Chinatown a bad name!!! Roll Eyes

I watched today at lunchtime and i have to say i really don't find myself warming to Matt Forte or Tom Parker Bowls because they don't have more easier relaxed entertaining interesting way of presenting, the presenters last week seemed a bit more warming on camera ,last week they made everything they spoke about and cooked far more interesting. I'll keep watching to see if i can get any thing of value this week,

Thats easy then selsley , don't watch on the weeks that Matthew Fort or TPB are presenting, that way you'll enjoy the programme more and have less to complain about .
I find TPB very relaxed in his presenting as well as humerous and quite knowledgeable . I enjoy listening to Matthew Forts comments , am not quite so keen watching him cook .
At least by using presenters with different skills and personalities we should all be able to find something about someone that we like , unless of course we are being deliberatly "picky " or comparing with the now long gone , but unfortunately , not yet forgotten GFL !!

Interesting comments sesley because many here think these two are the best of the crop, but I tend to agree with you. Or, at a minimum, the pair is being carried by TPB. Forte comes across as a hyper-critical old fuddy-duddy. While not very good as a TV host, at least TPB shows some enthusiasm, life and sponteity at times.

And the dishes that Forte prepares? Awful! He should stick to his critique shows.

Matthew Fort and TPB seem to be turning into a double act, something like Morcambe and Wise - "hey, hey, get out of that then!" Develish

What do you think of it so far? Big Grin Cool

OMG Eric and Ernie!! I haven't thought about them in YEARS!

MF and TPB as the new comic duo? "That's easy for you to say!" Big Grin

In all seriousness, though, MF is absolutely dreadful on this show. In fact I'm with sophie33, just be rid of it.

"More tea, Ern?" Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I am not a fan of The Great British Menu or MF,,,but it would be interesting to watch,,if MF,,came to the Market Kitchen and judged the food like he does on The Great British Menu. i guess it would be good TV,,but then again the chefs might not want to keep comin back..

I agree with you Bazzza12 about MF, MF for me on Market Kitchen,,spouts a lot of flowey prose when describing his guests food. For me its just Too Much. Thats why i prefer all the other presenters.

I have found the wine course very enlightening and Nick Nairns tips on buying pans was good.

I find myself watching it everyday,,

I'm not a regular viewer - just dip in now and then - I like Jun, but not very keen on the rest of the presenters.

It was just that when I tuned in the other day, Matthew and TPB were bantering away over sausages, and it reminded me of Eric and Ernie, and the way they used to go on at each other.

"Give me sunshine ... " Big Grin Cool ... lol

Btw, I did see the slot where Nick Nairn was advising on pans - as far as durability goes, stainless steel takes some beating, and if buying ss, then laminated pans are probably the best.

But if he wants to find some at realistic prices, he needs to start reading these boards!

Hard anodised pans, cast iron, and black iron pans, have a lot to offer as well, depending on the food and methods being used, and I'm surprised he didn't cover the various pro's and con's relative to such pans.

He seemed to focus exclusively on what suited the requirements of his cooking school - durability being at the top of the list, or perhaps more accurately, what is 'abuse proof'.

But the prices were: 'off the wall'!
