Jim who knows what's happening on this dreadful show?? But you're right, Friday's show was a CORKER!!

Who would have thought Squirrel?!?! Not me, that's for sure!! What a great meal idea!

I too shall abandon rattlesnake as a main course forever, although I don't think I can ever give up on my chrevil root and foie gras entree.

Yes, Friday's show was the BEST!! New culinary heights every week!

Gordy, I just think Tom Aikens was so bored being there, that's all.

And, well, yes Matthew Fort DOES know the stepson of our future Monarch!

This show is SO unbelievable.

Just when you were nodding off BAM!!! Squrrel.
I have to watch MK now, just to see whats next.Thats how to keep the
audience on the edge of his seat.
My guess is that right now some one is preparing slow roast of
the South American Anteater.
Can't wait

I, too, do wonder what frightful thing is up next on Market Kitchen, Gordy!! Maybe you're right, it could just be a ploy to get more viewers......?

Squirrel has been on British tables for years, not much difference between that and Hare, Rabbit, Hedgehog or any other game.

It makes me laugh that Market Kitchen is looked upon as an upmarket program when it is bringing back old recipes people turned to when times were so hard the poorest of the British population ate these as there was nothing else to eat.

Oh, I am not liking this squirrel thought very much. It is not unknown here though, a recette is given here [link]

Very important to get organs out though.

Why are they showing these things to us? It is not helping us with cooking.

OMG! I can't believe I missed that episode. But look on the bright side...squirrels are really easy to get hold of. They are so tame at Kelsey Park, Bromley they eat nuts out of your hand. Develish I tell you what, next time i take my toddler to swings we will nab a few, there are hundreds, no one will notice any missing. Send me a message if I can get you one too!

Hmmm I bet they get all their ideas from watching other telly programs..I saw this one off wild food goumets with thomasina! Mad

I wouldn't advise it Liz0, squirrels carry desease (the plague is one) theres no way of telling if they are or not.

I thought MK was supposed to show inspriring and seasonal recipes, the only thing I'd be inspired to do is TURN OFF, I think MK are becoming desperate andare now attempting Shock Tactics,

Squirrels are not farmed or to the farming standards in this country so stay away.

Angry Angry Angry

Big Grin Just seen the repeat

When you have paid £3.00 for a squirrel (or tree rabbit - for sensetive types) from your posh supplier of game and rare meats (la de da). How can you be sure it is, in fact, a squirrel and not a rat! Did you see it? That tail...it looked like a rat!

Sorry, am I too squeamish? Perhaps we should eat all forms of vermin including rats. First thing tomorrow, I'm off to my local farmer's market (open once a month and 10 miles away) and I'm gonna buy me a rat and eat it with plum sauce!

Sorry, it's not rot. Just google squirrel and plgue and you'll get neraly a half million matches. It's quite common. There was a case in Scotland just last year.

And that's not the only disease squirrels carry! Squirrel pox is another worry.

In the US not the UK. British squirrels are healthy so stop scaremongering.

British squirrels are not healthy, squirrel. Here's a report form Newcastle University: [link]

UK Forestry has an advisory against consumption of squirrel and it is only common sense to be wary of eating any wild animal whose provenance is uncertain.

'Given that the grey squirrel is an introduced species, and therefore the disease has occurred as a consequence of human action, the onus is very much on us to look for practical solutions to control the disease and protect red squirrels from this fatal disease. Our work concludes that targeted control is the most viable way forward.'

Go go go nuke the greys and eat em all up!

Yes thank you posset,

I used chunks of lamb, sealed it in the frying pan, then used carrots, leaks etc used stock on the bottom of the pan where the lamb had been -put it all in a dish sliced spuds on the top and bunged in the over --- trouble is I wrote none of it down but the whole family was happy with it (which is quite an achievement with my lot) -- I made a yummy stew yesterday as well (really getting into the winter slow cooking fest)

Hug Smile

Brilliant. No stopping you now. Smile Do you think your family might like some dumplings on top of your stews. My lad loves them. You can add all sorts of different flavours, or just plain..easy, filling and comforting in this horrible weather.

Making up rot and repeating it when you don't know what it means amount to the same thing.
BSE,Bird Flu, Foot and Mouth, Blue Tongue, Lymes Disease, Cryptococcus, Worms, Scrapie, Mycotoxicosis, chemical fertilizers, insectisides, fungasides and herbisides. Swine Pox, E-Coli, Brucellosis, Campylobacter, Salmonella and on and on
You pick on to worry about a disease only harmful between squirrels and not to humans on a cooking show?
Mad.
