Muzzy - I think only now is it dawning on everyone what we all lost with this ridiculous programming stuff-up. Heads should roll. Sheer incompetence.

What you're forgetting is that Bright Ideas is also a UKTV channel, so they win anyway

On her radio programme yesterday (97.3 LBC or on DAB and SKY) yesterday Jeni was talking about being on TV again - but she didn't say when. Its at 13.00 hours and she is brilliant - cant wait for today's edition. Smile

Gellie

I had heard that she was potentially being considered for Local Food Heroes - not sure whether as presenter (to replace Gary Rhodes) or as a judge. It was discussed on this board a couple of months ago.

I don't like the woman - she spoiled GFL for me with her 'look at me, look at me' attitude, but I can see why some people like that style.

Thanks Jannymac I wonder if UKTV understand the irony of having a channel called Bright Ideas, ?? I watch Jeni very carefully yesterday and she is very over baring at times BUT I think the producer in her earpiece is to blame cos she does seem to jump about abit and has to cut quests short, Still I think shes fab and "what a bright idea bringing her back"

Hi tickedoff, I posted about the fact that Jeni had a producer in her ear a while back but think it may have been deleted.

She's on LBC radio at 1pm today! I can listen in from here Big Grin

Hi Jannymac, I don't think Jeni is replacing Gary on Food Hero 2007, theres some info on it on the home page saying that Gary will be the main presenter this year with two other judges - could get Rosemary replaced Cheeky

I have also been watching Jenny on Bright Ideas. Great to have the programme back - even if they are repeats - as for Jenny I know we want her back - but would she come back after the way she was treated by the men in Grey suits!! I hope so. I haven't watched UKTV Food since they put on Market Kitchen - I can't bear it the presentation is appalling - the presenters are shocking and most of them are only there because of who their relatives are!!! Bring back GFL soon.

Shame - cos I think Gary Rhodes is a fab chef - but a rubbish presenter. Maybe they've lined her up for 2008?

I fear what is done is done so far as GFL going is concerned.
Personally speaking, I do not watch UKTV Food that much now as I simply do not enjoy MK, nor the other options, where as I DID ENJOY GFL as, in the words of the intro is was 'ever entertaining & inspiring' I do miss it & Jeni & am always in the hope that, in the way that so much of the programme schedule is made up of repeats, they will, soon, start repeating GFL & (with any luck) bites.
Count me in as a resounding vote FOR the return of GFL & Jeni.

The psychology of it all would suggest Mr P is right, Burger4me and Dougy Boy. Imagine if you will - just for a moment - GFL reinstated. Even if it were exactly the same show that we loved so much, wouldn't you feel different? We'd scrutinise it in different ways after having gone through this debacle, wouldn't we?

The way forward I believe is to just kill off Market Kitchen and just have a new show built around the strengths that GFL clearly had.

After having typed this, maybe I'm wrong. I'd just like to see GFL on the telly every evening again! I could forget these dismal three months quite quickly....

Let's have Jeni back.

I hope Mr P is wrong about what is done is done.

I haven't given up but do have those same twists of feelings that TVFoodie had during her writing of the last post above. I too just simply want GFL to return to the air.

I'm now on your wavelength...yes if we can't get Jeni back immediately then let's please have repeats of the past 5 years until Jeni can be recommissioned.

It's interesting isn't it that Jeni has had many of the chefs on her radio show and elsewhere (eg Bordoni, Hollywood, et al) and I notice on her board that she is now regularly visiting with the old GFL chefs. Hmmmm.

So it seems quite clear that the insinuation made by one of the posters that "certain" chefs wouldn't work with her was rubbish.

Bring back Jeni to TV.

Mr P, that's why EVERYONE is so angry Angry . It's a triple whammy:

1. They cancel Jeni and GFL, the show that was the heart of our television viewing. THEN:

2. They introduce an absolutely dreadful, dry, contrived and pretentious Market Kitchen program. THEN:

3. When everyone registers their collective unhappiness and provide well thought out suggestions for changing the current situation, we're edited, censored and deleted.

What if a normal company treated their customers this way? Disaster.

I know many there are in a binding legal subscription agreement with UKTV but the arrogance is truly extraordinary. Many only subscribed because of UKTVFood and, to many of those, this channel WAS simply Jeni and GFL.

Tragic and maddening. Mad

Well for me it is #3 that really I find totally amazing.

#1 and #2 could be explained away as simple management errors that are admittedly hard to reverse.

But #3 could have been, and should have been, addressed very early on when the first feedback was being received in early February.

It really is inexplicable.

I'm changing to Free View. I only stayed with a Package for UKTV FOOD and GFL. What was do good about it was that it was live, unpretenious and in a man's world Jenny could give as good as she got. I really enjoyed the programme. I've tried to get into market kitchen, but have failed. I've always liked Matthw Fort as a food writer, but cant cope with him as a presenter, and am not really that interested by his receipes. The same with the other presenters, with the exception of Tanya, who plays the dutiful housewife. MS Bland. She is remarkably dull. I'm sick of the Ramseys in any case; they've become another genre of the Beckhams, who they are friends with.

I HAVE to stand up for Market Kitchen, I used to watch GFL with Jeni but I gave it up when it became so loud and course. Jeni - sorry to all you Jeni lovers but... - got too full of herself and started to become a female Ainsley Harriot both of whom turned decent shows into their own centre court. AH ruined Ready Steady Cook because the camera was always on him and not on what the chefs were doing (and turning it into a talent show!) and he never stopped talking and Jeni got to be just the same in the end.
I am truly glad GFL has now disappeared from our screens and wish Market Kitchen every success, it is varied, quiet, and no-one is taking centre stage all the time and with a variety of presenters and guests it is never the same two days running.

As a postnote to this I have to say that to boycott Waitrose is somewhat childish and to do this because the presenter's ego (and very loud voice) resulted in the removal of the show is well......

We don't all like LOUD NOISY SHOUTING RPESENTERS.

Having just read through - again - some of the posts here I realise the trend that made me STOP WATCHING GFL and that was the choice of chefs appearing on the show - as well as Jeni getting LOUDER and LOUDER of course - this is no criticism of their abilities only their characters but I really cannot stand Ainsley Harriot - he has always to be the centre of attention, Alain Bourdain again and I don't think it clever to force oneself to eat live or nauseating things just to create a name for oneself on TV, Gary Rhodes who is oh so very patronising, Oliver Rowe and Ed Baines always look dirty with dirty fingernails and greasy hair YUK! and Mike Robinson never stops putting his hands through his hair when he is cooking as well as putting his fingers in the food which other people are expected to eat.

GFL lost track of any refinement, I liked it when Ching was on - she is nice and genteel as well as being talented, you never see her doing any of these disgusting things and she always looks very clean and presentable and doesn't need to shout.

Another point is someone says why don't the producers listen to the viewers - well I think they have done just that, we are not a minority, we have been saying for some long time that we didn't like the way things were going and THEY HAVE LISTENED!
