PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back Jenny Barnett and the crew. I loved GFL. I enjoyed the recipes, the chefs, and most importantly Jenny and the fun she brought to food and food information.

I learned so much from GFL and I won't be happy again until it returns to our screens. I adore cooking, but GFL made it more fun than I could ever imagine.

As for Market Kitchen. It seems to me that it's written by, hosted by and aimed at the boring old civil service brigade that have patches on the elbows of their tweed jackets, and enjoy sipping sherry whilst discussing pottering in their allotment. Its drab with a capital D.

I used to watch GFL every evening after work, and would usually end up watching UK Food for a good hour afterwards. Now I barely watch the channel at all.

Bring back Jenny. PLEASE.

Shelley..happy to contribute to a thread on fav GFL recipes...I have loads.

I too continue to "pop in" to MK every week or so to see if anything has changed and really nothing. The bumper music at every break REALLY grates on my nerves....and the camera is still zooming in and out, over here, over there.

GFL was so well paced, thanks to Jeni, you didn't have time for your attention to lapse. These MK guys could learn a lesson or two from GFL!!

Big.M...that's the tragedy isn't it?? They replaced an entertaining, educational, fun, enjoyable show with great production values and a terrific presenter with a dreary, drab, boring programme with very poor production values, terrible camera work, bizarre phoney backdrops, unmotivating and amateurish presenters doing bland uninspiring or inaccessible recipes. Unbelievable.

Bring back GFL and Jeni!!! Please!!!

Yes, this is getting silly isn't it. Bring back GFL now! I want to have daily a giggle and a bit of food inspiration and MK just doesn't do it.

Scalywitch and nunbutt.....how true! And the recent comments about "celebrity presenters" is not off the mark...they bring nothing to the show except "name recognition"

I like all miss Jenni and her wit, I tend to go over the old vid's for recipes. However, many posters want to 'bring her back' or 'bring GFL back'.

Jenni was GFL no doubt - but she took a lot of time off prior to the ending and how many people have asked why? Jenni isn't young, but she is a trooper and would probably work if asked! I remember Jenni on early am show - I think GMTV - 19 odd years ago! The point that I am trying to make is that Jenni was GFL (apart from the guest presenters) and she obviously needs time for herself (let's not forget the Sundays she did as well a while back) - we have no right to demand her time if she needs it for herself.

If Jenni wants to come back then she will and I am sure her popularity will not be unduly missed by those at the top!

Hmmm....so THIS is the "politics" everyone keeps referring to?? Even if it is a theory, somehow it makes complete sense to me!

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

No GFL Forever, this was just a theory, a personal opinion by one person being repeated. Nothing to do with BBC internal politics.

Are we watching an urban myth in the making?

Thanks cheesy for the reply, however have you noticed that the post of mine you were replying to has vanished?! Can't think why, I never even mentioned Tana! Just Jenni and how I was sorted on UK Bright Ideas and repeats (better shut up now).

Also one that I posted yesterday where I mentioned that Jenni was on the radio last night also vanished. Whoosh.

No wonder there are hardly any new messages, you get an email to say there's a new email and when you come on here, nowt, nichts, nought and zilch. That tumbleweed is getting closer and closer and closer.....

Oh I dunno dustyfrg, the food posts are fine and dandy thanks. No tumbleweed in site, just lots of meat, fish, veg and herbs.

I suppose it depends on what you come to the site for and what subjects you chose to post on Big Grin

I note that that posting is gone now - so it obviously hit a raw nerve?Rosti..perhaps, but as I said it makes complete sense!! Too often this is how decisions are made in many organisations without proper checks and balances.

Anyway, it was good for a chuckle.... Big Grin

Yes not only has my collapsable veg steamer story gone (Craig Hill on a repeat of G*L) so has the fab post by Dougy Boy that I think I was replying to, where he was telling us about the politics behind the changes - fascinating stuff, but shhh, I've had a few posts deleted this weekend so I had better shut it.

For now anyway. Wink

dustyfrg, same thing happened to me and I left pages of software code on the board...a bit embarrassing! What happened to your veg steamer story? Why was it removed, it didn't seem inappropriate to me?

Dougy Boy also being deleted?

OK here goes, read it quickly before it's deleted (then tell me why it was deleted in the first place). I was watching a GFL repeat which I had sky plussed. Craig Hill (Scottish comedian) was on with JB, he said his mother had a collapsable vegetable steamer which she used for a biscuit plate, and she thought it was so posh and brought it out when visitors came around. Then when he was 26 he was at a friend's and she was using one as a vegetable steamer and he said "Oh what an ingenious way of using that!" and his friend said "Well that's what it's for, what else on earth would anyone use it for?" - and he couldn't admit his family shame!

Actually last night's repeat was the one with JB and the nice blond wine chap Ollie Smith demonstrating picnic backpacks and so on, I can't possibly repeat what was said but they collapsed in a fit of giggles and couldn't speak. It was hilarious, the whole programme was great apart from Alan Coxon who just gets on my nerves (no doubt he's a brilliant chef), and Maria Elea, who also got a fit of the giggles at the end and couldnt stop. It was just good fun and great entertainment.

dustyfrg, odd my reply to you yesterday never got posted?? Anyway, I now remember that episode vividly. Thank you. Yes, it was hilarious!! Big Grin Big Grin

I, too, loved anytime Ollie Smith and Maria Elia were on the show. Ollie could certainly stand up to Jeni, couldn't he? In fact, he TOWERED over her!

As for Maria, everything she cooked was so intriguing. Imade most of here dishes...they all seemed Greek or Levant inspired and had great, deep, savoury taste. I hope to see more of her somewhere on telly!

What a shame this great fun is now gone....

Having posted loads on here I am beginning to think we are all wasting our breath. At the moment I have Jenni on UKTV Bright Ideas - gosh its good to feel normal again. She certainly is brightening my day even with a repeat.

Wont bother to use this message board again - no point - no one listens to us.

Kylerhea don't be depressed... I think they ARE hearing not only these boards, but the dismal ratings, the uncomplemetary reviews and other negative commentary you can find all over the web. The problem being that they can't make radical changes quickly and the production is scheduled months in advance.

We also have GFL repeats here in Australia and they are WONDERFUL!! They've just added an additional daily dose for us.

Jenni B was the absolute best on GFL....some stand-in presenters/chefs did a great job, others didn't..... but no-one can beat Jenni.....she has always been superb. I can see she probably 'get up the noses' of some chefs, but tough she always held the show together with great deal of hilarity and finesse. She is a real trooper.
PLEASE BRING HER AND THE SHOW BACK
