I hope your right TVFoodie, i'm not sure if I can bear anymore repeats or fake MK presenters any longer, I tried watching Nigella last night and I wasn't able to get into that either "please bring back JENI"!!!!

Well we still are enjoying our re-runs of GFL episodes here !! Smile Smile They are so fun, but every episode does remind me of what we are missing.

And no Market Kitchen anywhere on the horizon! Season 2 just doesn't seem to be scheduled. Perhaps good news for us!

jill your post seems to be "gone for the evening" but here's the recipe that I think you're talking about [link]

Yes, it was one of the "classics" wasn't it! A great episode from a great programme. GFL and Jeni are still sorely missed at least by this one viewer!

Is there any way we can get repeats of GFL scheduled at some point during the day??? I would truly love to get to see this fabulous programme once again - even if they are reruns.

I hope not! I was watching Bright Ideas yesterday, Jeni came on with GFB I had to move on. I had forgotten just how overbearing and loud she was, and how much she used people to gain self attention.

That's right Jill, I simply substituted the Wensleydale cheese with mozzarella and it was delicious. In fact 100% parmesan wouldn't be all that bad either! Big Grin

And you are so right about GFL!!

TVFoodie, I would agree with you about the parmesan. It's sharpness and saltiness makes any schnitzel dazzle IMHO.

The dish you guys are talking about seems like a basic pork schnitzel in many ways, just a bit more emphasis on the breading.

I'm going to give this a try but what's your thoughts on using pounded chicken thigh instead. It would seem to be the perfect match. Was this a GFL recipe, I don't recall it?

Can you give me a clue about Wensleydale cheese. We don't have it here and if could suggest something generic that is similar I'd love to know.

wensleydale cheese has a very mild but sharp, fresh milky taste to it, not too salty, and has a very dry, crumbly texture, and doesn't really melt when you heat it.

it resembles a young caerphilly cheese, but i dont expect you can get that over there either. the only thing i can suggest is that sometimes really cheap feta cheese has a slightly wensleydale-ish taste about it.

with reference to food poker, jeni says on her blog that food poker is going ahead, and that she's doing the commentary for it Smile [link]

Cheese, I for one can't wait! It's been so long since seeing Jeni on TV it will be terrific, no matter what the show is like. If they are already doing a wrap, it sounds, though, like it's a short run series, doesn't it?

If I'm reading Jeni's blog properly I think that Food Poker is still in production. I imagine it'll be in the next season's line-up. Smile

I read in the Good Food mag that it will be weekdays at 4:30 starting around the 20 Oct. That's from memory and I'm a Grumpy Old Woman so it may not be quite right. I will check that. Tongue

Further to my info about Food Poker I have now read that it was due to start on the 1st at 4o/c. I don't think it has so the best thing is to watch the tv listings. At least we know it's soon. Wink

Kim15, me confused a bit. Food Poker is produced by Optomem. I thought there was some sort of bad blood with Jeni? And now she's involved with this show?

"Food Poker is to be a new BBC 2 daytime food show to air later this year and announced by the enigmatic Jeni Barnett. The show sees top chefs using all their skills and food knowledge in an attempt to turn random ingredient cards into a winning dish."

How odd is this?

I remember that show from years ago! Does it still air there in the UK?

They attempted an Australian version but it fizzled, as do most Australian TV productions Confused
