What happened to the posts that were on here just a few hours ago??? Why is everything being deleted everywhere???

newyork1 had a very valid post!!! this is maddening Angry Angry I wanted to comment on that post!!

Anyway: One of the great pleasures of GFL was to listen to the guest chefs and, although low key, they discussed what they had at their restaurants. While no where near London, these small tidbits would certainly be a guide to locals where to eat out.

Perhaps MK could introduce a bit of this, without promotion, of course.

GFL...I noticed that too - but there are quite a few other posts missing on all the other threads today...some from over two weeks ago.

Very odd, but its getting me a little angry as all of this is serious feedback being offered with the most sincere intent. The fact that moderators, who we now learn are just hired professionals with no love of the channel or what they are doing to it, can simply delete posts even though they violate none of the rules.

Angry Mad

Now we also learn that deleted posts are irrecoverable??!! What kind of board software is that? None that I've ever been involved with.

Probably because GFL going offair and Market Kitchen has nothing whatsoever to do with "Eating out and away" which is the subject of this forum. So posts can be deleted because they are on the wrong forum.

I suggested last week that we keep Market kitchen posts to Market Kitchen, and I see that Nora from UKTVFood has suggested the same.

So maybe that is why these posts will be removed from now on, and if people still continue to post on threads on the wrong forum the whole thread could end up being removed, as has happened in the past, long before GFL finished and Market Kitchen began.

The webmasters could have solved this "overflow" problem if they had just left the GFL board accessible from the main messageboard screen. Most don't even know it exists anymore. There is a large pent-up demand for airing frustration with UKTV Food programming and really no clear location for it to go - hence the overflow.

However, your explanation doesn't make sense because two of the recent deleted items were indeed about "eating out" [eg newyork1's post]

Also note the whole thread's topic has nothing to do with "eating out" and many of the other posts have nothing to do with eating out either but these are reatined [as they should be].

I don't think there is a need for such rigid pedantic definition, otherwise the converstaions would never happen.

It just doesn't make any sense how they run this thing.

But the GFL live board IS fully accessible, you only have to use the drop down menu. Why is that a problem?

I am so sorry my explanation doesn't make sense, I didn't see newyork1's post so don't know the content.

All I know is that someone asked where was that post then imediately went on to talk about GFL and Market Kitchen.

Yes I did note the whole thread has nothing to do with eating out and away which is why I said that the whole thread could be removed if the mods see fit, which has happened often in the past.

I don't see that it is pedantic definition, it is designed to make it easier for people to find discussions, and less tiresome for people who want to stick to themes.

Please don't be disingenuous about the way in which this board operates.

Of course you can get access the "turned off" GFL board by going through the pop down at the top of the screen, but casual posters are not going to know this, rosti, and you know that.

For all intents and purposes these GFL threads are not available as they are not presented to the browser as all the other threads are. De facto, they are essentially "gone".

Anyway, the point I wanted to make is that GFL inspired ME to go out and try some AUSTRALIAN restaurants!! When Bill Granger came on and had such a flirt with Jeni [imagine that Big Grin] I had to try out his Bill's Cafe in Surry Hills which had never really inetersted me before. That was one funny episode, the double entendres were flying!

I did go, and it was great, although only had a Sunday breakfast. Australians don't know how to fry eggs [liquid white and burnt underside more often the rule than the exception] but they were preapared to perfection there.

So, I now go often and all thanks to Jeni, Bill and GFL!!

Yes I do know that. The fact still remains that the GFL forum is still fully accessable even though the webteam have said several times it is closing.

GFL in fact is no longer relevent to this board.

GFL is showing on UK Bright Ideas I believe, and they have there own website.

Here is the link, it is all nice and yellow

Billy2blues, that might indeed be a good suggestion! Anything but MK!

We don't often eat out as we're on a tight budget so TV is how we vicariously get to "enjoy" food made by great chefs - we just have to create it ourselves. But an online cookery course, interesting.

As desserts are also near impossible for me, any recommendations for going out to get just a fab dessert? I can't seem to work with chocolate Frown

To all the posters on this board, I'm sure we're ALL eating out more often now that GFL has gone. Certainly no point in watching UKTVFood, is there?

Let's make sure that we patronise Jeni's chef's restaurants!

TVFoodie, great minds think alike. Yes, we ARE eating out more often and probably are the better off for it. We used to love to get home in time for GFL and watch it, often while cooking dinner.

But now we don't have that and we have often elected to eat out instead. Unfortunately, except perhaps for Bill Granger, we don't have any of "Jenis" restaurants down under. Frown Frown

As for eating out more this is not a bad idea. Perhaps I too was stuck in front of the telly too much when GFL was on. I often tuned in and just left it on UKTVFood all evening.

So, while MK is still airing and the summer months are still with us, here is our chance to re-discover our local restaurants and pubs!!!

And maybe by the time the chill winds return we can have a new, live, fun cookery show to watch!! Develish

I wish I could eat out more often or travel to distant restaurants but am not extremely mobile.

That's why I like to hear about restaurants on UKTVFood, even those chefs from Australia and New Zealand that used to be on Great Food Live would get my imagination going!! I miss GFL a lot.

One thing that they could improve on with MK is to have more chefs and have them mention just a bit about their restaurants. Having only one chef per week is getting very boring. I hope they lighten up this show, quickly!

Hi Oysterman, I agree wholeheartedly that the casual poster would not know about the GFL pop down. I didn't until you mentioned it. Am now heaps happier...BUT is the message board still there....or are we forced to annoy Rosti by mentioning GFL on the current threads?

Jenben...me thinks rosti will have to remain annoyed as it is just not covenient to go through the rigamorole of going through all those mouse clicks to get to an abandoned board.

How silly. Cheeky

I hope against hope we can have a great, fun, LIVE daily food programme every night once again!! Mad

Jenben 1 it isnt Rostie you need worry about annoying as GFL Forever or reg or whatever name he or she is using says. It is the website and webmaster.
It is not current threads that are the problem it is that they are on the wrong boards.
To post on the GFL board all is needed is go to the top of the page and where it now has eating home and away click on the down arrow and pick GFL from the menu.
Not difficult even for GFL Forever/reg or any other name he or she posts under to do.

Well I'm sure we're ALL eating out more often now that GFL has gone. Certainly no point in watching UKTVFood with the excessive number pof repeats they keep showing. Tiring.

So if we're eating out, let's make sure that we patronise Jeni's chef's restaurants like Frank Bordoni's and delis like Gino D'Acampo's.

Do you really mean that TVFoodie? People will eat out more because GFL has gone.

If you do then you are saying that GFL failed completely. The whole point was for the celeb chefs to teach us to not have to eat out, how to cook their own dishes at home.

Of course they would love us to go to their restaurants, but only because we want to, not if it means it is because we are unable to cook at home, if that is the case, they have failed and the program failed.

I think it is very sad you feel this way.

Cry I loved GFL with Jeni and the company that she had with her. Everybody was professional enought to not make us mere public feel complete morons. the ideas and knowledge that the shows inparted were inspiring. Unfortunately I can not say the same for the new programme. Its like watching top chefs who have no regard for the cost of ingredients nor if they are available in all parts of the country. I live in Devon where there is a wide choice of produce but to find white asparagus!!!! when we have lovely English asparagus left me questioning why UKTV have changed. Sorry guys you have lost me as a customer, I was an avid watcher of Jeni.

Well, GFL had always inspired me to "eat out" more often and I have recently returned from a trip to the States, LA and Las Vegas specifically. I would have not normally visited these cities but business dictated the venues. I had posted somewhere on one of these boards any suggestions and didn't get a reply, so I went "blind"

I could NOT believe my taste buds! The quality and level of the cuisine in Las Vegas is absolutely unbelievable. With second mortgage in hand, we went to Robuchon's signature restaurant L'Atelier, Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill, Emeril's Cajun masterpiece. The list is endless, literally. Everyone who is anyone has a restaurant here and they are GOOD.

The competition is fierce, the service is extraordinary and the food, indescribable. I've never experienced restaurants run so well. It puts London to shame.

Ignore the gambling completely. This place is for lovers of all types of entertainment and is a dream come true for any gastronome. It blew us away!

Thanks Jeni for your suggestion so many years ago about Las Vegas. And we still miss you terribly.

Gemma, you're not the only one. Many people that adored GFL have now left UKTVFood more or less totally.

Doug, off to Las Vegas at Christmas. Your post has encouraged me as this was not my "ideal" destination for the holidays!!

I came back when I found out that GFL and that horrible Jeni Barnnett had gone. UKFood will be a much better place without her. Not everyone adored GFL and a lot couldn't stand Ms Barnett.

Back on topic going down to Dorset soon, any suggestions?

I went to an Indian restaurant the other day, I wasn't to impressed. I was a bit baffled with the menu, I am no expert on Indian food. Smile

Whereabouts in Dorset are you going Soup Kettle?

Which one where cornetto?
