Cooking King Prawns

Thread Starter: pips 2    Started: Wed 07 Jan 2009    Replies: 3

Can anyone advise me on how to cook King Prawns in order to achieve a soft texture. I have had indian dishes where the King Prawns have been cooked and have become very soft and tender. Any help?

Mary and Rosti you are both right. I live in Malaga and we eat a lot of prawns here.
Pips 2, you need prawns which haven't been cooked - the gray ones, not pink. And don't overcook them. Put them in as Mary said, at the last minute and as soon as they turn pink they are done.

I was wondering if this could depend on the type of prawn used, rather than the way they are cooked.

I believe prawns become tough when overcooked. Add them at the last minute - they don't take long at all.
