What's on Good Food Channel

For those who prefer other programs to MK

Thread Starter: shelleyk64    Started: Tue 05 Jun 2007    Replies: 133

Just thought those of us who are being accused of name calling etc could talk here. Then, without those who like MK who are accusing us of name calling couldnt be put out by our difference of opinion. And, we couldnt do any so called name calling...I am still at a loss...to see where that happened...

Anyways, what are you all doing with you spare hour or so in the day, any other new foodie show that has taken your interest?

I am sorry if someone comes to here and reads malice into this post, but there is none intended.

Perhaps we're more irreverant here in Australia but from what I can see of her bio on the web and the funny comments here it seems that she will be a very lively addition to the line-up. She seems like a young and vivacious form of Jeni Barnett from the bio.

I thought she was a breath of fresh air, Ms Lamb. I thought she did well. Confused

Well we don't have Ms Lamb yet here on MK as I think we're about two weeks later and I don't know if I'm looking forward to it either...I've never heard of this woman before. We don't have her here.

Well, to say the least, the Amanda Lamb episodes will go down in infamy I think. How dreadfully embarrassing for her. And for Mr Tebbutt, too, I would guess.

Who on earth ever decided to put Amanda Lamb on Market Kitchen !?!?! Mad What a total embarrassment this is! And to pair here up with Matt Tebbutt is adding insult to injury. She acts like a 16 year old with a crush.

I've never liked Market Kitchen but now I'm starting to wish for the bad old days with the original presenters.

This show is jumping from weakness to weakness! Angry

Well at least UKTVFood has had the courtesy, and common sense, to introduce us to Barefoot Contessa and Anthony Bourdain!

I'm hungry for more. Really tired of the old BBC repeats. We can recite them word for word now.

I don't think that would EVER happen. A bit of pride involved there!

How about if Sky just brings over the USA Food Network and put UKTVFood out of its misery. The Food Network carries all the best British cooking shows as well as hundreds of unique programmes we've never had the pleasure to enjoy over here.

It might even save UKTV a few quid!

I agree with you Jackwagstaff, the Living in Spain channel is very cheaply produced and wooden. I have watched some of the programs when it first started and didn't enjoy it at all. I have seen one or two episodes of Deli and I didn't enjoy it. The chef is not Spanish, he is English. His Spanish is OK but not great.

Sun? SUN??? Where on earth do you live? Certainly no where near me!

I watched the Spain channel twice I think. I actually didn't realise it was still around until I read these comments. I wonder how it pays for itself? Sort of the same question on Market Kitchen. Can you imagine how expensive that production must be?

PS I too am very relieved that Tana has left the building.

The choice is between sit out in the sun , or sit in and watch whatever you like .
Pretty good choice I think .

I had such high hopes when I first heard about the new channel as it coincided with the first airings of Market Kitchen but alas it was not to be a real alternative. I would hate, though, to be forced to make a choice only between watching Tana or Living in Spain. Perhaps a root canal as an alternative?

When the chanel , "Living In Spain ," first aired , expats were quite eager to see what it could come up with , the answer was "very little ." As was mentioned , it looks like the programmes cost 25euros to produce , and that would include drinks for all the crew plus tip !
It was slatted in the local papers , and I don't know one expat who ever watches it , on the other hand , if you are living the experience , you don't have to watch a poor substitute on the television .
I know from past posts many detractors of MK sited Tana Ramsey as the reason for their dislike , calling her presenting .."wooden " , ( not me , I liked her and her style of presenting .) Well watch "Living In Spain " ....it's so wooden you can hear it creak .
Actual spanish television for spaniards is nothing like that at all and there are some excellent cooking programmes ,especially in the mornings , good if you happen to be in a bar , as in spanish bars the television is always on .

We're lucky here down under as MK is on at 6PM before most people even get home from work!!! So it's not on the main viewing times here.

I have to agree with all of the above. It's just that Market Kitchen is SO uninspiring. It's quite incrddible how they've managed such a poor production. It's neither educational nor is it entertaining. And it never makes me want to get up and give a recipe a try.

I keep tuning in from time to time but it is still best left unwatched. There's better things to do with your time, even watching another channel.

Bourdains shows are so well done. Have you seen "No Reservations"? Such an interesting programme.

Did you know he takes the time for a blog? It's a good read: [link]

Now THIS is real TV programming...not like Market Kitchen.

I agree entirely. All of Bourdain's programmes are very interesting and engaging. I love his self deprecating style and his genuine interest and respect for all he encounters. Great television.

And Ina Garten's recipes are simply miraculous. I've tried many, many and they all work and they are all delicious.

Now if we can only be rid of Rhodes, et al !! Perhaps Bourdain can teach him some respect?!

For me it would have to be Barefoot Contessa and Bourdain's A Cook's Tour.

Both are relatively fresh and haven't been repeated to death.

Agree about Ramsey, though. Great entertainment!

Hardly ever tune in to MK anymore. Yawn.

For me, I'd have to vote for Barefoot Contessa. This is the one show that I actually make recipes from. Her method is always so simple and straightforward and she has a way of wanting me to listen and watch. A VERY good series!

PS Try her roast chicken. The bacon flaps make it SO moist!

I agree, Gordon Ramsey shows are a good substitute for Market Kitchen. I too like his Hell's Kitchen series as well as the F Word. Both are very enjoyable food programmes that can hold your interest, unlike the dreadful MK.

I agree with you hobmaster. Ramsey's shows are so full of profanity and there's very little true "cooking" I would guess I would be the first to dislike his shows, but somehow, I don't know why, I enjoy all of them. They are pure entertainment, though. There's minimal education value!! Big Grin

Eeeeuuuuwww Eek as far as I'm concerned, Tana should simply stay off TV in any form! She just doesn't "have it" Eek

thats what it said -he has a lot of business ventures both here and abroad-the mans no fool!!

tana earns the holiday money.

Really?!? £60,000,000??

Well, in addition to being a good chef, I really don't know, it is super-evident he is a great businessman!!

Sat 15 Dec 2007, 2.26PM

correct -but hes worth 60+million pounds, and he sends his wife out to earn a crust as well-get it while you can!
