I know she isnt nearly the same, but ive adopted Ina Garten as my new American Jenny, I love the show and i love Inas presence, even if she does put on a few false laughs!! lol My idea of heaven, standing cooking in my house in The Hamptons no wonder the program looks so appealing!!!! Having watched her make her choc brownies on her show today made me want to make them!!!! and i work in a patisserie!!!! lol

Glad I live in England my nerves wouldn't cope, I hate being the centre of attention. Eek

the puddings were for the rehersal dinner, in england people tend to just have a wedding rehersal at the church, in the US this would often be followed by a dinner to mark the occaision.

so in the states you might get a wedding shower and/or a hen party, a rehersal dinner and then the wedding itself.

sounds good to me!! Wink

How come in America they get a pre wedding party, or is the desserts for the actual wedding. We don't do a party before the wedding, or does she mean a hen party? Still in America they seem to do everthing so lavish and big!

Oh, how good did those 2 desserts look for cassandras pre wedding party, and the 2 table layouts were so beautiful to.
I dont think Ina has ever cooked anything that i havnt felt inspired to try making myself.

i love the lifestyle element of her show, the shops like loaves n fishes, the fruit stalls, the art gallery, her friends, it all feels genuine, and jeffrey is just charming. Even her advise on linens and napkins, glassware and how to set out a buffet table, im learning even in between the receipes. i love it

i think nigella express could has used some tips from ina for express as im sorry, im a huge nigella fan but its just not working for me. its fake and contrived.

Ina it all looks flowing and natural

She has mad two desserts today, rum baba and floating island. She made them look so easy. How easy was that.

I don't either, bev. It was on another thread where Suzzy_Q said that but there really isn't much similarity between the shows IMHO.

I think Barefoot Contessa is one of the best cooking shows airing at the moment. It's fun to watch and my test is whether it motivates me to fire up the hob Big Grin [which it does]

I dont think she models her programme on nigella at all, though the food network did make feasts which we havnt seen yet in the uk, and they use the same food stylist to take their photographs in their latest books. Im a huge nigella fan but i think Ina has taken over as my favourite tv cook/chef

Wow, I gave up on Market Kitchen months ago! My, you have patience Bev!

For me, Barefoot Contessa is one of my all time favourite food shows. Someone else here said she modelled her program after Nigella, but I don't really see the strong similarity? Do you?

I just like the way she involves us with her life, her home, her friends and her husband. It makes the show so much more enjoyable and engaging. It's as if I know her.

And, yes, I'm very envious of her kitchen Big Grin Big Grin

I love her kitchen, so light and airy and so much space too, i love those big glass jars she uses for her flour too, ikea sell some very similar. I hope we get the barefoot contessa back on very soon.

Im afraid i have completely given up on market kitchen, i tried, but i just dont enjoy watching it, and i watch uktv food for entertainment.

I hope that whoever is in charge of programming at the uktv food station, sees so many peoples responses to MK, and keep it on for the fans of the programme, but maybe a different time slot?

Bev, yes isn't Barefoot Contessa great! My kitchen is one tenth the size of hers so I'm very jealous but love how all her recipes are so simple. I've tried many of them and they are VERY tasty (perhaps all that fat and sugar, yumm)

I too can't stand Market Kitchen and now usually give it a pass. It doesn't "work".

I love the barefoot contessa shows, and after watching her show have bought all her cookbooks, i love her style of cooking in her fabulous kitchen, what a house, and imagine that garden, what a place Smile
I wish we could have a barefoot contessa weekend, also a nigella one, and a tamasin one, i like rick stein, but he is on endlessly, and we see so little of other series.
I love to watch uktv food, cant stand market kitchen im afraid, i have tried and i just dont think it works at all.
I love the themed weekends though and would love to see more of those, Ina, nigella, tamasin, rachel, mike robinson, awt etc

Please, uktv food give us some entertaining weekends

They have taken it off at the moment. Maybe she is making new ones for us?

Yes, she'd make a great friend!! The show is engaging and the recipes I've made have turned out to be terrific! That's what a cookery show SHOULD be. like GFL was.

Anyway, I cherish every airing of BC there is!! It's not very consistent.

I am a huge fan of her shows too, and agree they are the only thing worth watching just now.
Still can't take to MK sorry folks. I find it really boring, it just doesn't have the personality of GFL>
The Barefoot contessa recipe books are lovely. Full of gorgeous recipes photos and snippets of her life with Jeffrey.
Gosh I'd love her house, and wouldn't she make a great friend..

I just love Barefoot Contessa and sad to see that she's gone for now.....but what a great idea to put together a show with Jeni and Ina, et al. It would certainly have unpredicatble results considering how different their personalities/skill sets are!

So maybe we can get Jeni a gig on Long Island!!

Just love the idea of getting Jenni amd Jim, Ina and Jeffrey together - total class -fun, informative, entertaining and above all real people having a good time together and enjoying good food (and wine) between them. Isn't that what life is all about and what makes it a good place to be

Angry Angry
Watching Anthony Worral now in her place. Enjoying it, like to know how other people live! Never seen someone working so hard, fending his farm, career and family. Good for him, don't take this programme off as well now UKTVfood! Angry

Ina is a wonderful substitute for our lost Jeni! She's warm, entertaining and her recipes are full of glorious tastae. The brownies are scrumptous but I've tried many of her recipes and they all seem to work flawlessly. How easy is THAT!

Note that Contessa was the highest ranked UKTVFood program for w/o 10 May! Surely that's because we've lost GFL. Note that MK didn't even rate once!

Davey boy....Make them....i have and they are the best! In fact I have made loads Cheeky
I agree Goldbloom its also the only programme I watch too. Not interested in MK and bored with the rest! Roll Eyes
