Sun-Blushed Tomatoes

Thread Starter: Jo_951357    Started: Sun 20 Aug 2006    Replies: 13

Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can buy Sun-Blushed tomatoes? I have tried Asda, Morrisons and Tesco but can’t find them on the shelves. When I ask at customer services they look at me as if I am an alien. I read in this forum that you could make your own but I would really like to try the bought ones first. Thanks

Hi Jo

Cut ripe tomatoes in half and place cut side up on a grid in a roasting tray/grill pan. I usually give mine a grind of black pepper and a drizzle of olive oil - sometimes I add slithers of garlic. Then just roast in a very low oven until most of the moisture has gone - different types/sizes of tomatoes will take different amounts of time. Then, whilst still warm I pack them into a sterilised jar with any other bits I want to add - usually fresh thyme and a couple of garlic cloves, cover in olive oil, tap to remove any air bubbles then put on the lid. I store mine in the fridge. They're then either eaten on their own, as antipasto with cold meats, chopped and used in a goats cheese and red onion tart - or even added to bolognese to give it a bit more depth.

Happy "sun-blushing".

Smile The Galley @ Horning sells the most delicious sun blush tomato from their deli counter. Great with their Irish cream cheese !!

Hi Fudge's Mum. Thanks for your reply. After I read your reply this morning I went into my local Tesco and asked at the Deli counter, but they said they didn't sell Sun-blushed tomatoes. Maybe your Tesco stocks a better selection than mine does. It doesn’t look as if I am going to get any here so would you be able to tell me what spices are used in the bought ones. I read someone on here about making them myself but it didn’t mention the herbs and spices used. Thanks

I bought some from the deli counter at Sainsbury on Friday, Tesco had them in their deli too!
