The important ingredient in liquid smoke is in fact condensed smoke:

None that I found, in admittedly a very quick search, used only concentrated soy.

However, at least one of them supplements this with soy

Hi, liquid smoke is a very reduced from of soy sauce with added bbq flavourings. I used to work in a resturant where we poured a few drops on the red hot sizzle dishes just before they go out to the resturant. It`s called ` Liquid Smoke ` because as soon as it hits the sizzle dish it smokes like mad, giving off a lovley hot bbq smell, but be carefull you dont need to put on to much, and the dish has to be very hot. We used cast iron dishes that we put on the gas burner for a couple of minutes. Smile

hi, for an indoor bbq flavor mix one part liquid smoke to nine parts water and marinate any meat for 15 minutes then grill as normal. also have your butcher slice a roast very thin on his slicer marinate for 15 minutes or so and dry out in a fan oven at a very low temp, no more that 100c and you will end up with beef jerkey
