Nuts

Thread Starter: Christopher3364    Started: Wed 02 Mar 2005    Replies: 4

I have to feed someone who has a nut allergy.

I know I should avoid anything at all risky as the allergy is so severe but to clear up a point what is a nut ? I am thinking of items such as Pine Nuts, Coconuts as well as seeds - sesame, sunflower, pumpkin

Yea I know what you mean about breads may contain nuts Jen, it makes me laugh when I buy walnut bread and the label says it may contatin nuts. I think Confused I hope so Big Grin.

But seriously the wording used covers themselves against the slightest trace which is an absolute necessity if you suffer from allergies.

Jen

Some people with nut allergies are also allergic to some seeds, so it's best to check with the person exactly what they can't eat.

Like mammachef my nephew has a nut allergy - what always gets me is chocolate, bread and cereals - all these often contain nuts or may contain traces of nuts. You need to check the packets of everything you buy as lesley1621 says..

also look at the labels for everything as sometimes a nut warning is put on the unlikelest things because they are packaged after nuts have been (or something like that) there are websites and i think that if you type in allergies into the chat search bar a few should come up

Hi Christopher,

My nephew has such a severe nut allegy and egg allegy the poor thing has to carry a life saving emergency injection pack with him at all times. I bought his mum a book called The Allergy-Free Cook Book by Maggie Pannell. It not only has recipes but contains information about allergies too. If you are going to cook for this nut allergy sufferer on a regular basis, I would highly recommend the book as this is such a complex area.
