Thai Cuisine

Thread Starter: DB's    Started: Sun 29 Feb 2004    Replies: 7

Does anyone have any menu ideas and or recipes for Thai food they can recommend. We have a party of 25 in our restaurant this weekend and they have requested Thai cuisine. Probably be just a starter and main course. I would really appreciate any help here.
Cheers, Christine

Yes, it is not what to cook that will be your problem it is how to cook so you want something simple but looks good. Kirstens references are really good.

So adding to Kimi list and from my own recipes you could have:

Shrimp and ground pork toast
fried sweet potato
Thai Crisp fried rice threads

then things like clay pots ie fish, seafood, mussel, crab and so on.

chili pepper fried rice is nice

Then the famous Grean red yellow curry chicken

and some simple salads with a thai theme.

Its Friday the weekend is coming!!

I entered a very good recipe for peanut sauce but the moderator deleted it (see above). I don't understand why some recipes are allowed but mine wasn't!!

Buy Thai Food by David Thomson (a thing of beauty apart from being a wonderful recipe book) or anything by Vatcherin Bhumichitr, the owner of Chaing Mai, in Frith Street. Also, Mini Gosling, whose mother owns a lovely Thai Resto in a pub called the Hamilton Arms in Sussex/Hampshire where all the profits go to a charity which rescues child prostitutes in Bangkok. Some of Mini's recipes used to be on this site (under the name Mini C); in fact, they still are.
If you've never cooked Thai before, I suggest some practice. It's not easy

DB's try getting hold of a copy of Ken Homs book Foolproof Thai Cookery it has menu suggestions in the back and all the recipes you need. His suggestion for an authentic Thai menu is spicy prawn and lemon grass soup, green curry prawns, crispy fish with mango salad with bowls of thai fried rice and for the vegetarians savoury rice soup, stir fried mixed vegetables and sweet and sour aubergines with vegetable fried rice.
