In our house we don't have a starter with a roast beef dinner - we save ourselves for the main course.

I would probably do smoked salmon and prawn paté with a slice of smoked salmon and a jumbo prawn, garnished with a few salad leaves, dill and a lemon wedge.

Believe it or not tradition has it that the Yorkshire Pudding is served as a starter with Roast Beef. As a Yorshire lass myself its something I have always done and my Family have come to love because it gives you a real chance to taste the gravy.

I was only saying that to someone yesterday lisa, although I thought it came about when people couldn't afford much meat and the yorkshire pudding (in those days cooked below the beef so all the juices dripped onto it) filled you up before you had the meat and veg. I have also heard that rice pudding was sometimes served in the same way, before the meat, as an alternative.

How about oysters or asparagus - delicious and light. Smile
