hi
much to my disgust my o/h insists on cooking chips in lard (yeuch) in a deep fat fryer. i hate the thing its a smelly sticky revolting piece of equipment in my kitchen that i dont really want but as its his house too i cant really refuse to have the offending item in the kitchen. we have a stainless steel moulinex one and its permanently sticky & greasy on the outside despite the fact i clean it regularly in hot soapy water. id like a replacement & am looking for an easy clean option and one with some sort of changeable/washable filter would be best as i hate the stink of greasy lardy chips cooking. and as im the one who seems to do all the redecorating the greasy steam ends up on the kitchen walls. i want to repaint them but dont see the point at the moment whilst this thing is constantly in operation at least once a week.
can anyone help!! ive tried to suggest that oven chips would be better but to no avail.
thanks

hi, why don't you cheat millym, go to the chip shop and buy a portion. Say you made them in your fryer, he will never know! Big Grin Big Grin I think take away chips from fish and chip shop, are the best!

I must say after trying all sorts of oven chips and trying to make my own on trays in the oven, you cannot actually beat chips made in a proper chip pan with lard. Yes the smell and grease is a pain and I have binned my chip pan years ago because of it. Your o/h is right though if you want good chips it is the only way and Cornetto's option of the chip shop is 2nd best to making your own.

Maybe once the chip pan has thoroughly cooled down you could store it in one those cheap plastic storage tubs with a good snap lid and keep it in the shed or something Big Grin

I too gave up on oven chips a couple of years ago - they are just not the same are they.

I bought a DeLonghi Rotofryer which uses much less oil/fat and which has an easy clean system - and it really is easy to clean. Has a filter in the lid, and lid plus filter can go into the dishwasher.

The resulting chips are very yummy indeed - I'm sure your o/h could be persuaded.

PS I don't work for DeLonghi, honest!

cant see o/h going out to the chip shop everytime he feels the need for a fix & we live in a 1st floor flat with no shed, dont think he'd appreciate me stashing his beloved fryer in our bin cupboard much as id like to but good suggestions!
i ll have a look at the delonghi roto fryer sounds like just the thing we need
thanks again Big Grin Big Grin
