Yesterday was a heavy drinking session for myself, but I caught that Top 10 Christmas Foods... at number two was Christmas Pudding.... was it me and the alcohol, or did I really hear some of our great English Chefs saying they FRY CHRISTMAS PUDDING... arrrrgh, that sounds a little odd.... were they being serious....?

Fried in butter with some bacon and eggs......delicious.......you should try it some time. Might be a good hangover cure!! Cheeky

Hope you are feeling much better today.

Not with bacon and eggs - please! That sounds rather like kippers and custard!
Fry in a little butter and serve with a lemony sauce, to cut the richness. Lemon Sorbet is good. Or you could simply reheat in the microwave.

Arthur - what is clootie dumpling? My stepfather used to make a horrid pudding every Sunday, it was a big suet dumpling thing boiled in a cloth, and eaten with jam or syrup. We all hated it. My step-sister and I were talking about it only the other day, and it must be over 50 years since we were obliged to eat it! Blurgh

Hi Arthur -

I love Cloutie Dumpling, on it's own, with custard, or fried like the Christmas Pudding. I'm in west central Scotland, near Glasgow. I think I read somewhere that you are further up north. Maybe it is a "Scottish" trait.

Victoria, all I can say is your stepdad could not have been very good at making a Cloutie Dumpling. Properly made it is delicious. You don't know what you are missing!!

I like my fry ups people and I like my puddings... but frying them..... maybe I might try it on Boxing Day.... that's of course if I have any Christmas pudding left over.... What is the recipe for this Cloutie Dumpling? As a West Indian we have dumplings.... but I've yet to eat one wth Jam or Treacle....

I think what we hated most about the pud was that it was boiled in a cloth, and when you tipped it out, it had a slimy sort of coating. It was rather heavy, rib-sticking stuff, not what we wanted after a good roast dinner. Also, getting the cloth clean afterwards was absolute hell!
