Wow. Someone likes repeats.
Just goes to prove that Rick can still pull 'em in.
Food Heroes given the respect they deserve by someone who genuinely believes in what they do rather than the "I'm the Star of the Show" attitude held by a certain other party.

Having spent way too much of this weekend watching Rick Stein's Food Heroes marathon the difference between Rick's gracious and humble style and Rhode's horrific show couldn't have been more stark. I enjoed watching it again. I bet the ratings were good to.

So respectful, calm and learned. You could just sense Stein's passion as he talked about these people and what they're doing.

Never, ever again do I want to see Gary Rhodes on my TV screen. Appalling.

A point tillywilting worth making. But the fault lies with the producers. By making Rhodes the salient component of the entire programme, the local producers fade to the background - and many times totally forgotten.

The show was NOT a celebration of the local producers, it was a celebration of Gary Rhodes. Just plain sickening.

And as for "the fix", I think it is more a commentary on how opaque the whole selection process was. There wasn't an iota of transparency in the process so people naturally become suspicious.

One of the worst shows this year, and that's even counting Rhodes Insults India and Market Kitchen.

oh and for all of you out there who think the show was a fix - get real - the top 6 in each region could not possibly have gone through automatically without some sort of vetting from the researchers on the show - at the end of the day it was an internet vote to begin with and even though you could only vote once if you had a 100 different email addresses you could vote for the same business 100 times.

I think this is a real shame- everyone is focussing on discussing Gary Rhodes (ok I agree he is bad) but not ONE single comment so far mentions any of the fantastic local producers that appeared on the show. I know someone who was selected for the regional finals and we were all really excited about them being profiled on TV, increased exposure blah blah blah but it appears that the whole thing is a complete joke. I sincerely hope that this programme does not degrade the products and produce of all of the businesses involved in the show too much

If he just presented instead of being judge and jury on everything.
I agree, the Indian fiasco was toe curlingly embarrassing.
At least other "proper" presenters take a breath now and then.

"he works very hard being an excellent chef."

Perhaps he should work equally as hard at being a bit more humble and less egotistical.
At one time a brilliant presenter and bastion of British Cookery but now and with that insulting "Rode Over India" debacle I feel that he has totally blown it.
Stick to cooking, sell your UKTV Shares( Big Grin) and get back to being one of the leading exponents of British dishes. Some may then forgive you.

I disagree, Gary is very good in this series I would leave him alone, he works very hard being an excellent chef.

I am so tired of Rhodes' snide comments about everything and everyone and his I-know-better approach to cooking.

He sickens me and I switch the channel everytime I see his face pop up.

He's just a embarassment.

This time the Rhodster has gone TOO far.
It appears he has critisised Nigella.
Look, Nigella can be filmed being sick in a bucket and I would not only watch but tape it.
I would crawl two hundred yards over broken glass just to let her kick me.
If HE was cooking in the garden I would draw the curtains.
Bless you C-de-M

With Rick Steins Food Heroes they were ALL winners, all were showcased and praised.
This time I really fail to see how some bloke who goes to a wholesaler can be a F/H, why not choose the wholesaler?
A hotel where people travel hundreds of miles in their car to stay and eat. They pay to stay in a room to enable them to eat the food, hardly accessible OR ecologically friendly.
PLUS some of the heroes go to great lengths to produce great food only to see Rhodes mess about with it and then tell us HIS recipe is lovely AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhh............. Blurgh
The show should be called "GARY RHODES and some insignificant little people".

I have not been watching it, if I turn UKTV on and he is on I see whats on UKTV +1 if he is on that as well off it goes. I think Gary has learnt after appearing on the Great British Menu that it is better to be the Judge than the Judged, and now he has taken it one step further and is the only judge.

Sorry but I like this series of Rhodesy's Food Heroes much better than the last. In the last series most of his comments wern't very nice, then backtracked them all when the other judges disagreed!!
This series is much better, he's doing what he does best - cooking, and the other chefs are a bonus.

This programme is also infected with the "celebrity TV" disease where the most salient component of the show is the big-name, self-absorbed presenter a la Ainsley Harriot Ready, Steady, Cook. Or Tana R or TPB.

It makes the show so unenjoyable.

Rhodes' ego is uncontainable and it simply grates every time he speaks. Everything is "me, me, me"

Rosti said it best: GR is best left to cooking and staying off the air.

I agree with the majority - Gary Rhodes completely dominates what could be a really interesting programme. Far too much time taken up by him and his "assistant" chef turning perfectly good produce into his creations. He only pays "lip service" to the other chefs' views and he sounds so patronising most of the time. I didn't like the last year's panel judging much but at least it appeared that Rosemary and Oliver were part of the decision process. I can see that the final "cook off" each week was sometimes hard for producers, usually non-cooks, to show off their produce and this year's format should have been fairer but unfortunately not with Rhodes wanting to be star of the show.

I can't believe they are using Rhodes, really. Rosti hit the nail on the head, he DETRACTS from the programme rather than enhances it.

GR is so disrespectful of everything that is not GR, it's just not worth watching.

Rick did "Food Heroes" much better than Rhodes. He showed the food and culture of India better than Rhodes. His television style is MUCH better and more respectful than Rhodes.
As a presenter, even Chalkie was much better than Rhodes.

Much as I admire Gary for his passion about food, I feel his presentation of food is much better than his television presentation.

For me, he seems to dectract from the food and it is all about what he thinks about the food rather than about the food itself.
