Who knows, roxy, who knows. While it *may* be a kitchen, it's certainly not a market by any stretch of the imagination. And as Nobuka said, the episodes are so out of date the ingredients aren't even seasonal by the time the episode airs.

This silly programme just keeps getting worse and worse and it's not just the silly ingredients that keep popping up in every episode.

This whole debacle is such a tragedy. Frown

I haven't posted since about June because I had been packing and moving house, etc. - what a nightmare that's been. But I thought I would now just have a look to see if opinions had changed about MK and it looks as if they haven't. I have been watching it at lunchtimes and I must admit I like Mathew and Tom together. However Tana and Diana are a tragedy. I have never liked Tana as she puts on airs and graces she need not and her mannerisms are awful. What has happened to Matt. He was great, but not with Tana. The powers that be are still not listening are they. Wish they would! Cry

Hi Cornetto - thanks for the nice message. No have moved from Surrey to Hampshire, Alton to be precise, out into the country a bit more. The move was great, did it over 2 days and they did all the packing. It was so easy, and touch wood we haven't found a thing broken YET as we are still unpacking after 2 months. But it is very nice here and the neighbours are all very friendly. But I must get back into the habit of coming onto the website I have missed it. Thanks again. Big Grin

PB you're right of course, the main problem with this show is the presenters. All the other criticisms while valid pale against the incredibly poor selection of hosts on this show.

Picking a Ramsey and Parket-Bowles simply to build ratings from their name recognition is so transparent. And, it didn't work!

I just hope against hope that they can resurrect a fun, lively daily cooking show, preferably live and spontaneous, so that we can all start watching UKTVFood again.

They really shot themselves in the head with this amateurish production.

Do you really think the reason TPB and TR were chosen was simply beacuse of their surnames? If that's true, that's pathetic.

They certainly don't have a very good television presence but I thought there was something more behind it.

What I find more peculiar, though, is that they haven't seemed to improve over time.

And what's with the add of yet another, FIFTH, host? It all seems so slipshod...

I do. I really do. Jeni Barnett was chosen for GFL obviously because of her talent as a television presenter. She knew nothing of food and that wasn't really important because many of the sudience didn't either.

With Market Kitchen they have clearly selected people with nearly zero television experience (except MF) So having any TV personality ot presentation skills was obviously not a factor at all. It was merely their looks and/or name. Full stop.

"slipshod", indeed Angry

A terrible program.

Now notice that they've changed the timeslot for this unbearable production. Now it's 7PM. Perhaps they're *finally* taking notice of the abysmal ratings!

7PM is clearly a much better time to put on the show. If it doesn't work there, it won't work anywhere.

Looking forward to other changes, too! Please.

BRING BACK PHILLIP HARBIN AND FANNY CRADDOCK.
Everything since is just sooooooo boring. They were good middle class food snobs.

See what I mean Rosti.

Boy I couldn't agree with you more, barshedale. Everything lately has been so incredibly boring - as if they intended it to be that way!!

Don't know much about "middle class snobs" I must admit, but I think they could do well to change the focus of the recipes they are presenting on MArket Kitchen. They just aren't things I'd like to do at home.

Might not be such a bad idea to bring back Philip Harbens recipes. I wonder how most of us would cope with feeding a family on post war rations. Back then people certainly ate seasonally, with local produce bought from the greengrocer and butcher or grown themselves. Not a supermarket in sight. Yes, lets bring back Philip Harben. Develish

Blimey posset are we going to get repeats in black and white now?

I realise you were typing 'tongue in cheek', but some young producer is probably rummaging through a dusty cellar somewhere right now!

Johnny and Fanny again!!!! yeeeeekkkkks!!!

Well, at least we wouldn't have seen them for a while gastro Wink Most of us have never seen Philip in action, we don't know what we might be missing.
Maybe we should take another look at the Craddocks again, a bit like Abigails Party; cringeworthy, but great entertainment and a relection of the times. Green Mash anyone? Yes, bring them all back, get down that cellar young producers Big Grin

It's not the green mash, I don't remember that. It's the green rice my late Mother in Law served up I dread. (and that was 1976!!)

Preferably piped into green rosettes, (not that I remember personally of course). Here's a thought, Gordon Ramsey and Fanny Craddock at a dinner party? Who else shall we invite?

I think Fanny would be shocked and not able to cope. Fanny would have worked well with Hudson and Halls, remember they wore dinner jackets?

Silvana Row and Gordon Ramsey, now there is a pair!!

Marguerite Patten still has so much, as does Mary Berry.

Are we inviting just chefs/cooks posset or others as well?

I've sent copies of these posts to Age Concern - I suspect we are seeing some worrying long-term effects of watching too many cookshows Eek

As this is a food website we ought to have food related people, but I suppose everyone, gourmands and gourmets alike, all eat, so have who you like. What can they 'bring to the table'?

We could have lots of parties for different reasons. Do we want to stir it all up and sit back and watch the fireworks? Or would we like to see more reflective people making someone change their opinion? What would Fanny think of the Microwave, Take away food, fast food and Shirley Conran, of 'Life is too short to stuff a mushroom' fame?

Come on gastro, who have you invited and why? Smile
