Pecans are really expensive- can they be substituted for anything else or do they have a distictive flavour that works well with bananas?
(what about finely ground almond?)

Yes peacans are pretty pricey, walnuts would make a fantastic alternative. Lots of health food shops have bulk packs of walnuts at a reasonable price. And they are so good for you, a great way to get your omega 3!
