Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Your post did make me laugh!..... I agree too!

By the time he's finished fannying around with the food arranging it on the plate, it would be STONE COLD.

And, I know these programs are VERY OLD now (wink, wink UKTV Food), but the fashion for 'froth' instead of a sauce was abhorrent, it always looked like something my dog would've brought up if he'd eaten something that disagreed with him.

I suppose we should be thankful that they're giving Rick Stein a rest for a week or so...... God knows I think the man is great, but I could recite his shows by memory -- UKTV Food, PLEASE stop repeating the SAME shows week after week after week, and 3 TIMES A DAY too! Develish

How about filling your shockingly empty schedules with some more imports?...... Anthony Bordain and the Barefoot Contessa are both excellent US-made shows.

Wow !! You really say what you mean Ian don't you ?!
I like to watch Gary Rhodes cooking because he explains so well exactly what he is doing ,and you know you would be able to follow him . '
I also like MK ,don't understand how you can call Tana Ramsey a " soulless trophy wife " ? In what way ? If Tom Parker- Bowles was plain Tom Smith , I think you would be more enthusiastic .I get the feeling it's the name and who he is , rather than what he is that you seem not to like .

Froth on food , repeats , agree with you completely , total rubbish !

dustyfrg you're not wrong! Cheeky That's what's so insulting to the intelligence of the viewers.

To deliberately put on "celebrity names" that do not have the proper television credentials and expect the audience to just swallow it is beyond the pale! The producers must think the viewing audience are idiots.

They are so awkward and uncomfortable it's painful. Have they ever even ad libbed one line?

It is their wooden presence that accounts for everyone's comments on how the show has no "humour" and has no "fun".

At least they have now taught MF to squint so that you can't see his eyes dart back and forth as he reads the autocue.

But for "froth on food" Yuk!! Nothing makes me send a dish back faster than some arty "foam" on the plate. eeeooo. Eek

And, yes, as suggested elsewhere, let's slide Gary Rhodes to another slot and put GFL repeats in his place Big Grin Big Grin

Gary Rhodes towers of food make me want to hit them with a really really big hammer !! its so nouveau cuisine, i thought we had thankfully left that behind in the 80s, i guess that shows how old the shows are?

I am not keen on him either. I love the repeats of Nigella, Tamazin, Ina - all the girls in fact - (except Rachel and Sophie Grigson). I would be interested in seeing Jane Grigson if there is any footage !!

I am not impressed with froth on food either, only on my coffee thanks.

oooh you are my friends forever, I absolutely hate Gary Rhodes he is so patronising, smarmy, self opinionated.....and I know I don't need to go on.

I too have never been able to see the point in those stupid towers - whoever does them - and that froth......well I agree it does look like spit or someone suffering from rabies and it certainly puts me off the food and Ian Michael is so right when he says the food MUST be stone cold by the time he has finished caressing it.

It is interesting to note that his food isn't that memorable or his shows because last week my husband saw him cooking some fish which he thought he cooked with a coating of mayonnaise and mustard and I have searched the internet and this site - and left a message on these boards under Recipes asking if anyone could help but all to no avail, I guess nobody watches him! By the way my husband only caught a fraction of the programme which is why he doesn't know the full recipe!

All

I think Gary Rhodes' cooking is brilliant. Forget the towers - the majority of his food isn't like that. I believe that he's one of the best chefs that the Uk has produced over the last 10 years.

Now - as a presenter - my opinion is different. I thought his 'at the table and 'great british classics' series were great. His early attempts - Rhodes around Britain in particular - were cringe-making. And acting as presenter of Masterchef and Local Food Heroes doesn't work. He comes across as too stilted and smarmy. When he gets 'tough' on the contestants on Local Food I want to scream - it's so patronising.

That said, I've eaten at his restaurant(s) Grenhouse and City Rhodes and thought the food was fab!

Lellysmum - I know which fish recipe you're referring to and it's great. I don't have the book near me so can't help just now.

Oh Jannymac, if you can let me have it when you find it I would really appreciate it, many many thanks. Smile

Have you tried it by any chance? I didn't even see a few seconds of the programme so I don't know what I have let myself in for promising to cook it! Wink

Gary Rhodes literally molests his ingredients. I love Indian food and i really am interested in the techniques used to cook it. Rhodes spoils what could have been a fantastic program with his stupendously arrogant behavior.

he constantly undermines the Indian chefs whilst cooking there recipes! He arrogantly suggests better ways to cook and how much of what ingredient to add! He completely gets in the way of what could of been a really interesting travel/cooking program!

I was almost throwing things at the tv last night watching him. For my telly's sake keep him in the kitchen!

lucybug, you are so right, so many of my friends have now found out for themselves just how arrogant he is!! - and they are quick to tell me.

IF he was a gentleman he would have done as he was told then gone to his room, made notes and changed the recipes when he returned to the UK but to tell eminent indian chefs that "that is far too much oil" or "I can't put that much in" etc etc is so flippin' cheeky that I am surprised it was actually shown on tv.

The man is arrogant and rude - how dare he!

My husband cooks indian food and admires the indian chefs BUT he adapts the recipes to suit our tastes and he would never be so rude as to tell a chef to his face that he uses too much oil (they regard it as a symbol of the esteem in which they hold their guest and it indicates the wealth of the chef preparing it)

Does GR think that it makes him more acceptable if so then someone should tell him he is only making more of an idiot of himself than usual.

I am so angry with him that I can't bear to watch the programme anymore and I am not alone - much to my surprise, but what a shame a programme with such potential has been ruined.
