I've only just joined so sorry if this has already been discussed but I just wanted to say how disappointed I am that GFL has gone but even more disappointed with its replacement. I left work 3 years ago and UKTV has been my primary entertainment until now!! I've tried very hard to get into Market kitchen but just can't, to be honest I think it's rubbish, it seems the only reason some of the presenters are there is due to their names and nothing to do with being good at presenting. I don't mean to be mean but I feel so let down by what was my favourite channel.

I've had to resort to watching House on channel four instead.

Karen69, you're not alone...1000s feel abandoned by the programmers at UKTVFood. Their complete disregard of their audience is unfathomable. Have a look around the other boards and threads and you'll see what a debacle this whole dreadful Market Kitchen programme has been,

Karen, if you go to the Market Kitchen board you can share your thoughts about MK there on the many threads that discuss the various weaknesses of that absolutely horrific production.

There you can see the various elements of the concept that so many people dislike plus a lot of great ideas on how to improve the programme, how to improve the overall line up of all the programmes on UKTVFood as well as other ideas and desires of the channel's loyal viewers.

Hi, both my husband and I have tried to watch MK on several occasions now, but can't get into it at all. It is soo BORING. It's like watching paint dry!! We miss the fun and chatter you got with GFL.. The channel's viewing figures must have dropped significantly. Frown

Karen, truly this has been one of the wrost cookery programs ever introduced. And due to contractual commitments we have been subjected to it down here in Australia also. And they put it in the exact same timeslot as Great Food Live used to occupy.

It's is absolutely terrible and has ruined the whole evening's food viewing here.

What's happened to the posts that were left here on 3 July and 4 July? I left a response to someone and now everything is gone???

What's going on here?

The website seems to be censoring many of the messages. Why would that be, I wonder???

Yep you asked the right question B4M , mine also have gone , waste of time visiting if you keep loosing the threads , any ideas ? There was nothing rude at all in what I wrote .

Jack, I've just discovered entire threads have now been deleted from the website. And one thread I was familiar with was absolutely not rude, was right on topic and was serious commentary from many, many people. I think it had nearly 200 postings in it.

This is really disappointing that UKTVFood has stooped to editing out postings that they don't want to hear. Angry Angry

What's more annoying is the strange deletions of messages that have been posted for weeks and weeks only to disappear later leaving the whole thread a bit of nonsense.

Most bulletin boards allow the moderators to mark the message so that it appears deleted to viewers but it actually remains on the system for re-instatement if the marking turned out to be in error.

This also allows the board to display that the message is "deleted" so at least there is some visual explanation as to why the thread doesn't "flow"

The way THIS board operates is very weird and actually makes people think their posts have been deleted when in fact they aren't - they are only "taken away" for a twelve hour period. Very, very odd.

Jessie, MK is the most BORING programme ever produced IMHO. I feel so mlet down by UKTVFood channel.

They seem to treat the viewers with utmost contempt. Just look at their weekly schedule! Repeat after repeat, sometimes the same episode in the same day. Then they axed the one shining ray of programming they DID have: Great Food Live.

Now there's just nothing.

I doubt if viewership would have fallen too much though - as this a bunch of VERY loyal viewers that will sop up ANYTHING on offer.

Why they treat us with such disdain though is maddening.

Yes it's very confusing, as you say bits are missing , then they come back , then you cannot find them again.
Other boards sometimes number the posts so you can follow , and use the word "delete " so that you know there was a comment there even if it's now gone .
The people managing these boards need to devise a different system , not that I think for one minute that they will , but it would be so beneficial for us all .

GFL v's Market Kitchen?

There could never really be a contest unless they went in direct competition, but going by the viewing figures.

NO CONTEST!!!!!!

Calm down, rosti!! I don't think that's what they are saying.

You spend a lot of time every day on this website defending MK and that's great. But they aren't trying to make it a "competition", they are only saying that they prefer the attributes of Great Food Live over the attributes of Market Kitchen.

For all the reasons stated above - and countless other threads - from general production values, to the choice of presenters, to the ridiculous backdrop, to the over exposure of a single chef, camera work, etc, etc, etc they are saying that the program is not as "satisfying" as GFL was.

Nothing really to get too worked up about Smile

Calm down OysterMan? Why? Is it not something to celebrate that UKTV Food, along with it's flagship show, is getting better viewing figures that it has for a few years?

Lots of other people have got very airiated about viewing figures being low and people leaving the channel. That clearly isn't true, as is my being here every day. I'm not, there are days I miss out completely.

Jeni has been offered a perminent slot on LBC as from saturday the 4th Aug 6-8 and she had a meeting Y'day with Channel (it's between 4 and 6) which apparently went reaally well, so I think she'll be back on our screens very soon and definately on the air waves, you can't keep a good lass down!!!! as for MK I can't comment any longer as I don't watch it, Big Grin

Excellent figures for MK just published. Proving MK is the right format and attracting twice as many viewers as GFL did.

Definately worth getting worked up about.

WELL DONE MK

MickeyT and Rosti, you may indeed be right but "two weeks top 10 figures hardly a trend make". Although I think it's great you take the time each day to advocate the show, it is an important function you perform.

But there is yet no evidence whatsover that the show will "make it". Top 10 numbers are meaningless as it is a comparison merely against what other shows are being viewed. It's good press but not valuable, that's why it's put on the web free of charge.

Total aggregate viewership is what pays the bills and those numbers aren't available for another 4 days.

Yes, "calm down". Hug

I'm with Jack on this website thing, it's very confusing sometimes.

Oysterman / MktGuru, which one are you today?

Apart from that, why all this trying to stop people celebrating good news? If you turn out to be right you will want to celebrate. I would have much more respect for for views if you could just once say yes it does look good this time. Get rid of the blinkers and the narrow vision, see the bigger picture.

????? Me thinks you may be a bit confused Martin02 about my opinions on things?

Regardless of what happens either way, I'm not sure I would "celebrate" anything. Good grief, it's just television.

Can't STAND that woman on GFL........TOO LOUD and TOO Self opinionated....I always switched her off.......
true, Market Kitchen wasn't perfect..needed a few things ironed out, but I quite liked the concept......just thought Tana R was a bit stiff.....

I don't think mainstream will work for Jenni. She needs a secret corner.
