Caught the last 20 mins last night & as I expected Tom, Matthew, & Rachel (I'm a fan) were fabulous!

No doubt in my mind Tom & Matthew & a guest chef/cook who has great personality is the winning formula for MK , that is if they want MK to be more credible & hopefullu gain some viewers.

This strategy of pairing up Tana with whoever will not work at all because no matter who she is paired with she'll only bring down to her incompetent level that person! Tana is the problem!

Tana Ramsay & Matt thingy is simply a complete disaster & certainly not needed for Market Kitchen.

I agree, Rachel is terrific. [would be a perfect replacement for Tana, actually]

And whenever MF and TPB are on the show just seems to be a whole lot more interesting, although I admit still can't get through an entire episode.

Looking at the press release on Digital Spy - way back in December when Market Kitchen was first announced - it says the show is to be hosted by Simon Rimmer and Tana Ramsey. I wonder what happened to Simon?

I think we are starting to see some consensus on who should present? Wink

I totally agree about TPB and MF presenting the show and getting rid of Tana and Matt, but Rachel Allen I think not. If she calls herself a "chef" and "cooks" a salad of venison with beetroot crisps, that is a definite misnomer. That is all she seems to cook, salads and stews and she is very annoying with it (uses the word "and" far too much). In any case where are all the proper chefs who used to appear on GFL - too expensive to have on this rubbish show I expect. Roll Eyes

hi

i am brand new over here. i have to say that i do like Market Kitchen and i do believe that TPB and MF are the best two presenters for the show. I saw a couple of episodes presented by Tana & Matt and I could not finish the episodes.

Tana did not even seem like a bit inclined to taste the food Smile

Hi Pocket Battleship, Big Grin Big Grin when I first saw the "wouldn't Rachel be a good presenter" I thought of you.

After all the threads here a while ago saying how uttererly useless she was, how she couldn't cook, how she was only on TV because of her mother in law, and how she used the same words too much, it was really funny and made me laugh when suddenly people are saying she would be a great presenter.

Thanks Rosti. I like Rachel but I don't like the peacemeal way her shows are presented. For instance, Rachel will start one recipe then move on to another and then another. Then go back to the first etc. I know it may be cooking in real time or something, but personally I prefer things cooked one at a time. Also seems rushed as well.

I think we may be getting a change of presenter format next week. I think Matthew Fort is on with Tana with the guest chef Chanta Jones (Momma Cherri).

Rosti..it is funny isn't it, but sadly it's probably just the context.

I think the comments are only now being made vis a vis the current Market Kitchen presenters and the fact that *somehow* the episodes she was on had more "life" than normal.

The current lot can make anyone sparkle I suppose Roll Eyes

Darina Allen, I didn't know that!

Who is Darina Alen?
Anyway Tom and Matthew are the winning combination on MK. I am enjoying it now. (but I still pine Jenni Cry )

Lets look at the bright side we are seeing a vast variation of different fresh produce from market.

Hi cornetto

Darina Allan is a well known chef who runs the cookery school at Ballymaloe. I've not seen her on telly for a while, but she has appeared on a number of previous programmes.

Her cooking is superb.

jan

Simon Rimmer is doing an excellent programme on BBC, "something for the weekend". Perhaps the ukfood team should watch it and learn how to make an entertaining food program for a wide audience with good presenters....

Hi liz0, well funnily enough Simon was named as one of the presenters in the original press release for MK, along with Clarissa D-W. We have just been discussing it on another thread. I'm very intrigued about what happened to him and CDW between press release and transmission!

Conch, yes this is the exact text from the news release:

"Dynamic, entertaining and interactive, Market Kitchen will present viewers with expert and entertaining new takes on how and where to find, enjoy and cook the very best seasonal food. Presenters Clarissa, Simon, Tana and Tom will have access to Britain's best local suppliers and their seasonal produce. "

So wrong on many counts! Not only did Clarissa and Simon not sign on but the "dynamic, entertaining and interactive" components were also deleted.

Will they please FIX this program. I really, really do want to enjoy it!

Very interesting! There were obviously a lot of changes between commissioning the show and its first broadcast! Confused

It would indicate to me major uncertainty about how to proceed with this concept right from the beginning.

The real issue is the fact that they decided for whatever reason to remove the "dynamic, entertaining and interactive" elements of the show.

A big mistake.

Speaking of team-ups, who has seen Tana and MFort together?! Disastrous.

If anything, it just demonstrates that Tana needs to move on. She just doesn't seem comfortable at all. Her body posture is painful, she speaks meekly if at all and seems at a loss what to say sometimes. When she does speak it often is an inane comment just echoing what someone else just said.

This week's chef is all but mute. Why is that?? I'm starting to feel sorry for Mr Fort, he has to conduct the entire programme.

So, it appears there were lots of "changes" to the shows format and presenters from commissioning time to the time it first appeared on the air. Then, why oh why have they not made further changes or improvements since then???

Dreadful, dreadful. How hilarious is the quote from the news release??

"Dynamic, entertaining and interactive, Market Kitchen will present viewers with expert and entertaining new takes on how and where to find, enjoy and cook the very best seasonal food. Presenters Clarissa, Simon, Tana and Tom will have access to Britain's best local suppliers and their seasonal produce. "

Dynamic??? entertaining??? interactive??? Good grief.

She doesn't have the authority and depth of knowledge for MK except as a guest. Tom and Matt can improvise when things go wrong, Rachel just stops and looks a chump.

She is also too excitable in that she is tiring to be around over a long period. Her cooking though is really nice and would love to have tried the spicy potatoes on the 18th show, guess I'll have to make them instead.

Mathews soup was fantastic, simple but fantastic.

Cheers,

::adam

I did reply to this effect but looks like it was censored.

Tana is too far out of her depth, more so than Rachel who I was sat next to for tasting of Alistair Littles venison recipe on the show mentioned in the lead posting.

Perhaps it was censored because I voted for Tom and not Rachel.

::adam

PS Mathews Potato soup was scrummy and sooooooo simple

Your comments about Tana I think a quite true ::adam. "Out of her depth" is a very polite way of putting it and really a bit of an understatement.

Have you noticed recently though that her venue on the programme has changed a bit? I wonder if this is the result of the producers actually looking at the final product to air?
