Why cant you have a different chef each day to make it more interesting. You know, some of the usuals who used to appear on GFL. You never know it may make people watch this awful programme - not!

Put some more life into the thing and stop having these awful cook-offs and knife skills, etc. Absolute waste of time. Big Grin

PB you have 2 types of Chefs.

TV Career Chefs ... AWT, Gino Di Campo, Jean Cristoph Novelli

and

Chefs who appear on TV ... Marcus Wareing, Stuart Gillies, Marc Sargeant

The booking process for both will be entirely different and could also be contractual.

What about having as guest cooks/chefs, those lecturers at the various catering colleges around the country?

That way we might get a feel for what and how the new breed of chefs are being taught.

Is it just me, please let me know, only some of the recipes that I see on these programmes I just cannot locate. I was watching a Saturday Kitchen which was repeated (oh what a surprise) and AWT did a recipe for Cottage Pie with a cauliflower topping sounds awful but was great to look at Im blowed if I can locate it anywhere. Any ideas.

Huseyin Ozer, chef from Sofra, chain of Turkish Restaurants.

It'd be different from the usual French/Italian/Indian/Thai choices.

Adam.

That's a great idea, Adam. I would love to see him on a show and more Turkish food generally. I adore Claudia Roden's Arabesque too. It would be good to move away from what has been a very same-y style so far. Great opportunity to have more variety.

Arabesque is indeed a wonderful book to drool over. Love the food! Where I live we do not have a middle eastern food shop and or deli, which is a great shame as finding all ingredients is not the easiest. What about some Vietnamese or Burmese recipes also. I have heard only complimentary things about their food.

With Gordon Ramsay in the starring role then...the biggest hypocrite of them all!

Folks

Aren't we losing the plot a bit here?

Merilees Parker and Tana Ramsay class themeslves as cooks. Irrespective of how good you think they are.....

Jeni Barnett is an actress/presenter.

The discussion is about what chefs/cooks we'd like to see on MK Can't we stick to the point in question without without getting sidetracked every time someone posts about Jeni Barnett?

I'm sure my nose will not be welcome here, but I feel I have to say, no way is Jeni a chef or cook BY HER OWN ADMISSION

Merilees and Tana can in no way be compared with Jeni Barnet, in any sense, shape or form.

Jeni was and probably will be again, an actress and presenter. She said so many times that she couldn't cook. To ask that she be invited as a chef on Market Kitchen simply isn't realistic.

Merillees and Tana both have cooks backgrounds, Jeni has a presenting one, and in the past an actress one. She combined to two very well on GFL. Acting and presenting. But she ain't no chef. Big Grin

Another vote for Ed Baines here. Also, Angela Hartnett and how about Tony Tobin who, despite being on RSC, cooks wonderful food in his restaurant. I also enjoy watching Gennaro Contaldo.

Would love to see chefs from Simpsons in Birmingham: Matt Cheal, Luke Tipping, Andreas Antona and Adam Bennett. Exquisite food. Would also like to see detail of professional methods of cooking and the equipment used. Marcus Waring and his vacuum packed cooking looked very interesting. Would also love to see some Arabic cuisine. Anytime Michael Caines wants to come back, I'd be delighted to watch.

Angela Hartnett is going to be on soon according to UKTV's Caroline. She's got her own show too - another Optomen prod - with John Burton Race.

I reckon we'll see a lot of the GBM stable because they have contracts with with the prod co. Thinking about it now, actually all the chefs so far have been from GBM haven't they?

It'd be great to go further afield, as above we were talking about Ozer and Claudia Roden. As an aside Matt is guest chef on SK tomorrow and is doing a live chat after so I'm interested to see if he fields questions about MK.

Agree with you Possett about Michael Caines. He's my fave so far. He even made the masterclass bits good. Charm personified.

Have you ever tried his food Conch? My husband and I went there on on honeymoon some years ago when Sean Hill was the Head Chef. We went back to celebrate our anniversary earlier this year. Both of us agreed that it was the finest meal we had ever had. The menu is reasonably priced for a Michelin 2 star, but hotel, Gidleigh Park prohibitively expensive - lovely and luxurious though it is.

I'm sure Matt will losen up tomorrow when he has another chef to interact with. He was good fun on Great British Menu and I do like his robust, no nonsense style. I think it is a shame his talents are not been shown in the best light with the current format of MK.

No have not been to any of MC's restauarants, posset, but would love to. A million years ago I was at uni in Exeter and my husb has never been down that way so I was thinking the other day it would be a great excuse to make a pilgrimage, show him around and enjoy a Michael Caines meal. The Abode hotel, which might be a bit cheaper than Gidleigh, used to be the Royal Clarence. It was a stuffy place where you took your parents, or rather got them to take you. Just wonder if you have more chance of MC cooking at Gidleigh v Abode. I see he is recreating his GBM dishes on 5th June as a special event.

Agree Matt's strengths not exploited on MK. He was great on GBM and it will good to see him with James M. Imagine it will be far jollier and relaxed.

Hi Conch

MC was there when I was there, whether or not he did any of the cooking I don't know, but his brigade seem dedicated and very skilled under his guidance. The restaurant is open to non residents, so if you can negotiate the 3 mile, VERY narrow lane leading to Gidleigh Park, you could stay elsewhere. The grounds are beautiful and we were able to take our puppy with us, so we did have a really special time, which is what life is about sometimes.

Sound good possett, many thanks. It's on the list. I remember the often hazardous Devon lanes only too well. Pretty sure I went to Gidleigh in the late 70's for a cream tea or something as I remember the grounds.
