I have really enjoyed watching this series and would love to buy the DVD's from the Food Network. Unfortunately the site says that they don't ship internationally at this time.

Does anyone know any other way to get hold of the DVD's ?

You can get them on ebay. That's where I get my American dvds from.I got three Paula Deen ones the other week and they only cost me £15 and that was including postage.

I love watching the Barefoot Contessa too. I don't mind that Ina uses butter and cream etc. in her recipes as I know that the dishes will taste wonderful.

However the amount of food that is prepared and the lavishness of the ingredients for small numbers of people always shocks me. Remembering my childhood and what was available and affordable. What Ina prepares for 1 meal could provide a family of 4 for a whole week.

I guess that comment makes me sound really old Big Grin

i know what you mean grissini, as much as i love ina, and i think her cooking is fabulous, when i think of the cost of some of the recipes that she cooks it does make me baulk a bit! i think part of the problem is that she uses a teaspoon of this and a teaspoon of that, so you have to buy lots of bottles of things just for one teaspoon of it!

Yes, it just goes on and on - a punnet of this fruit, a punnet of that fruit, another punnet of fruit, then cook it a bit and add another punnet of fruit - just for texture. The out comes a brioche the size of a mini bus ha ha.

Love it.

I think Inas cooking is great, it is not expensive. She uses all basic ingredients salads, fruits. You can vary what you do, you can change some of the ingredients, and make them smaller quantities.

Very true cornetto. I have copied the way she has her flour etc in those big glass containers. I have bought some (not glass though) from M & S which look similar and have a carrying handle. I just wished I had a kitchen, fridge, store room etc. like hers too.

I also love the Barefoot Contessa and purchased her cookery books, her food is fabulous. I've tried all sorts of her recipes including making the brioche bread which turned out wonderful (my homemade bread is normal like a brick in consistency, so gave up). Her parmasan chicken is fantastic and her vinaigrette dressing (the one which uses an egg yolk) is absolutely wonderful. I would thoroughly recommend buying her books. I'll be watching todays episode in an hour, can't wait. LOL Karen Happy Cooking everyonex

She is almost the only one I enjoy watching at the moment, well, that I haven't seen a hundred times before!!! A little heavy on the salt sometimes but great. Although I find Geoffrey a little scary Big Grin

I love Jeffrey, I think they are smashing together. he is so sweet.
Her programmes really cheer me up and I love the bits where she goes to the markets or stores or farm stands. The books give you a real flavour of that.
The recipe books are great, full of lovely recipes, I have "The Barefoot Contessaat home" . and have tried quite a few of the dishes.Creamy Rosemary Polenta is vey good. I hope we get some more of her series.

Yes, every episode cheers me up too. She is so warm and inviting. And she even cracks a joke or two during the show.

But it's the recipes that have captured my imagination. I always shied away from a lot of super-rich recipes but have given them a try after wataching an episode.

I really, really like this programme!

Try "Healthy Appetite" it's a lean and healthy version of The Barefoot Contessa, and just as agreeable to watch. She is a young Nutritionist called Ellie Strieger and the programme is full of quite interesting facts too. Yesterday she said that a red pepper has as much Vitamin C as 3 oranges..I didn't know that..Mind you I hate Peppers!!!!

I tape her with my sky plus box. Cheaper that way. Big Grin
As much as I like Ina, she could do with a personal trainer to run her round her garden, that sounds like fun. Big Grin
