Can anyone please tell me where I can obtain whole ox tongue (uncooked) and ox heart again uncooked.
My local butcher looks at me as though I must be an alien wanting these cuts.

You dont say where you live,but in Plymouth market thereis a butcher who sells whole ox hearts,maybe he could get ox tongue as well.
Even some butchers dont seem to know good food when they see it.

I love tongue. Have been buying alot (cooked) lately, then I found this info above when I googled for you. Now I am not sure whether or not I would take that small risk.
The government should have told the public about that 'small' risk.

It's a shame your butcher is so unhelpful!

I love heart and get it in my local farmshop butcher (Adsdean near Chichester) along with sweetbreads, cheap wild rabbit and just about anything you could wish for!

Obviously this is no help if you don't live near, but I use Hugh Fearnley-W's website [link] which has a searchable list of shops.

I would ring round the butchers and farm shops.

I'm sure a good butcher would be delighted to speak to you as they like people to eat the rarer cuts of meat otherwise they have to bin them

Good bit of detective work there Snowlight. Can you believe these decisions are made without any of the publics knowledge. Very scary.

teeheehee any supermarket or butchers here am just trying to summon up the courage to buy one and cook it (had the heart it was a lot like steak) tripe is really big here as well AND I can get real coqs for my coq au vin and not have to make do with chicken
