There used to be some shops here in the North West called Whites Creameries..mostly round Southport. they used to sell what my Mum called Bulk Butter, and we would buy 1/2 lb or 1lb. It sat behind the counter and the assistants would cut a slice and pat it into oblong pats before wrapping it in wax paper.
Beautiful butter too. God knows how they kept it cool in hot weather. I always knew it as Danish butter, but not as Lurpak.
Ah the memories of childhood.
