I see that my negative post about Market Kitchen has been deleted. Very interesting that they only want positive feedback - I am keen to see how much of that there is Angry Angry

Am I really the first in this thread or, being an "old" reader but a new poster, have I misunderstood how the message boards work?

Well, I've given Market Kitchen a try every day to make sure I don't just assume the worst from one programme, but I think the longest I've stuck with it is about 10 minutes. I've dipped in and out to see various presenters but the most interesting thing I think I've seen was slicing onions. Many of us who are not confident cooks need to know the basics, but the chemistry, delivery and atmosphere in general just don't appeal. And for those who are competent cooks already, I think they'd be pretty bored as there's no p-zzazz or good banter to keep their attention until something of more interest comes on.

What the channel PTB don't seem to realise is that whether or not GFL, or Jeni in another good programme, returns, the format and presentation of Market Kitchen just doesn't gel at the moment. If that programme is to stay and we are to come to like it as Food considers we should, there's only so long before some other people will also stop giving it a chance without there being changes to content, pace, presentation, possibly variations in location, and the sheer length of the programme. And, put simply, it's not entertaining! If we go back in a month's time to give it another go, will we just see more of the same? I hope not. Although we can't help linking it to the cancellation of GFL in our minds and some of us will be a bit pleased really. So, prove us wrong, UKTV Food! Develish

I don't want to suffer the fate of others and be deleted (not for my 1st post!), so I guess this is more of an essay than I'd like but I want to back up what I think rather than appear to just have a dose of sour grapes. GFL obviously had "breaks" with some repeats and specials to keep us going, but to have the impression it's not coming back at all, or anything similar with Jeni if someone felt it needed a boot up the rear, just seems like Food is shooting itself in the foot. We were staggered at the decision to axe GFL, and weekdays without Jeni, her questions of good chefs, and some great ways of giving us information bursts, have led to different viewing habits and more food experimentation in our house. In other words, we don't watch UKTV Food in general any more because there's nothing to keep us there like we used to. In the old days yet another BBC repeat just might make us hang around to see what's on, but we're simply not there at the end of MK to give the next programme a go. So with repeats of repeats on many of the other UK channels as well, we're spending more time in our garden and doing other things, with the tv firmly switched off. Cool

We know it's only tv but we and our grandchild feel like we've lost an extended family and friends and gained some sullen neighbours we've tried to approach but just can't take to.

Having been away on holiday for a week I tuned in to UKTVfood this morning to see if Market Kitchen had improved in my absence - no it hasn't

Angry Hi I waited in anticipation for the Market Kitchen having enjoyed 5 years of GFL although Jeni was getting on my nerves after 5 years. But this programme is awful, scripted, not live and uninteresting, so what do I do in the evening now? I will watch next week to see if Tom and Mathew can do any better, but if not I am afraid that will be it.

Cheers. Unhappy punter.

belle maman, because of the way the message board works after about 10 pm all or most of the messages from that day disappear, they start reappearing from about 9am the next day. however, the mods do delete some of the posts.

Market Kitchen is boring.

I agree with what other people have had to say in this forum about the poor presenting and messy camera work. But the main complaint is that it's tedious! Even the studio audience of tasters look bored by the whole thing.

I've never managed to watch it for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I've gone back to it ten minutes later to see if it's improved at all but no such luck....it's still boring old rubbish. Get rid of it please.

YIP YOU ARE STILL DOING IT. I POSTED A COMMENT EARLIER TODAY AND IT DID APPEAR ON THE MESSAGE BOARD BUT SURPRISE SURPRISE IT HAS DISAPPEARED. WHAT ON EARTH IS THE POINT OF HAVING A MESSAGE BOARD IF YOU ARE GOING TO RIFLE THROUGH IT AND CHOOSE ONLY THE ONES THAT SAY GOOD AND GREAT THINGS ABOUT MARKET KITCHEN...FACE IT ....IT'S LIKE WATCHING THE "WOODENTOPS" ON A BAD DAY. NO DOUBT THIS ONE WILL DISAPPEAR INTO THE ETHER.

I think we should all give a chance for Market Kitchen to show us their stuff. I too enjoyed GFL, but I see this MK show as a very different kind of show - having the real chefs on the show, like Mark Sargent, is what we enjoy - seeing the techniks and learning new cooking approaches. I was hoping that Tana Ramsay would be more like her husband, in teaching us about new and inventive ways to cook - but I am sure she will in later shows. It was not a bad first week for MK -

Frown I have tried very hard to like Market Kitchen but sorry ... bring back Jenni. At least Jenni was professional and interesting. These four presenters seem only interestered in themselves, and the programme seems to be lacking something but what!

I do not see Market Kitchen as a replacement for GFL, it is a new show in it's own right.

Whether people like Market Kitchen or not, GFL is not coming back.

It has been said that Jeni will be back on UKTV Food, so just give things a chance.

Hi Rosti, if you read Jeni's blog, you'll see that nothing has been agreed. I suspect the mention of Jeni being back on our screens soon was to keep us all quiet. I do agreee though, GFL will not be back on UKTVFood.

I really must agree with these comments MK is rubbish. I've tried virtually everyday to see if it improves and I can honestly say it is poor. The presenters are wooden and very scripted and truly where did you get them from? I have to say it is certainly not GFL and Jenni would run rings round this lot of wooden tops you have presenting. Neither myself, or my boyfriend can take this anymore and we will not be watching. There is definately something missing from this show. Both of us loved watching Jenni and are very dissappointed with this new programme. Maybe it will improve, but I wouldn't hold your breath. I would love to think that Jenni may return........but that could be a long way off me thinks!!!

Market Kitchen is the most boring food programme I have ever seen. Uninspiring, dull, drab, middle class and patronising. Bring back Jenny.

problem is that as I am not being hooked by MK , I find that I am spending less and less time watchng UKTVFood . I find myself on other channels now, not even food stuff.......... Oh how I miss a good giggle , lightheated banter , interesting recipes and a short fat Jewish woman whom I would switch on to entertain me as I got in from work of an evening .

Subject: Market Kitchen. It would be good if the UKTV food/Market Kitchen applied him/herself to updating the site - we still have links to Jeni B and there appears to be more than one message board for Market Kitchen. I am sorry to say that I will not be watching this week as I can't stand Anthony W Thompson; a purely personal prejudice. I don't care for his presentation or for his smoking habit; I noticed him smoking during the programme about Elizabeth David - I don't think anyone who smokes should have anything to do with the food industry. All that fuss about washing hands. Has anyone else done the H & S course where you get to look at your hands under a uv light immediately after you've scrubbed your hands? I was a smoker myself ten years ago and gave up for health reasons. Looking back I wonder how I was ever able to taste what I was cooking. Still, one must be tolerant I suppose.

What a ridiculous rant. I've never read so much rubbish. Come on Billy Boy surely you can do better than that. Poor old AWT, if it wasn't for him and many others like him you wouldn't have foody programmes. Give him a break just because he smokes huh!!!

Pocket Battleship, Thank you for your kind response - Scharnhorst springs to mind? At least I am communicating with someone at last! I did say that my thoughts about AWT were purely personal. But don't you think there are so many other brighter chefs out there with talent? Although Floyd was seen smoking on screen it wasn't regarded in the way it is now. We have to move with the times. I also think it a bit retro that Anthony claims prawn cocktail as one of his best sellers. Where I live ( near Manchester) a few local eateries still serve prawn cocktails, then steak diane with a mountain of chips and salad - up north value for money is calculated on quantity. Smile
