Good morning all
I want to make a recipe which is in the People's Cookbook - Vindaloo Curry - but I cannot obtain the curry leaves locally
Can I use anything else? Confused

You could leave them out if you really can't get them. Have you got any Asian shops near you? Or you could get some online if you wanted.

This site is brilliant, they do fresh and dried curry leaves, and have a shop too.

This site is also good but they do have a minimum order of £8.95, so if you need to stock up on other spices as well.

Thanks Rosti
No haven't any Asian shops in our town, but I will send for some curry leaves from the site you recommended.
Once again many thanks

Thanks blackcats
I was able to find some freeze dried curry leaves in Julian Graves - hope they will do the job
Many thanks - will try Tesco but I had already been there before posting my original question - perhaps I ought to try a Tesco Extra Store

Ah - good point - it was a Tesco Extra! I fo8und it on the shelves with the exotic ingredients. There has been another post about this curry and if you haven't seen it you need to download the latest recipe. When I made it I put the onion in with the marinade but now it says that goes in on its own and get browned before the pork. Also the one on the show had plenty of gravy but mine was very dry.

Good luck

Hi black-cats
I printed out the recipe and I note that it says add all marinade ingredients to the pork and yet in the second stage of the method it says to fry the onion until browned
I am going to have another look before I make this as my OH likes plenty of gravy with his curry
Thanks for making me aware of this

Hi Myfanwy

You are very welcome. Keep the onions until the actual cooking part. Then the only way to brown the pork would be to take it out of the marinade (which is what I did) and then add the marinade back in once that is done. It seemed ok apart from the lack of juice!

The flavour of this curry is wonderful, but sadly the information in the recipe is as bad as the Lily Kwok curry which seems to be causing all sorts of controversy! I am not sure that UKTV Food ar doing themselves much good with the People's Cookbook if they cannot even reproduce an accurate recipe on the website.

Good luck
