Hi, I'm an avid viewer of the uk tv food channel and an apprentice chef. I have just seen "Barefoot in Paris" and think it a complete joke. There is hardly any cooking involved and whatever little cooking is involved uses grossly incorect techniques which prevents a viewer's knowledge of the basic foundations of cooking from developping. I have often seen simple styles of cooking of food presentation, however, being told to put a simple ingredient on toast is not awe inspiring, especially seeing as she made such a point of going to the Poilane shop in Paris and praising their beautiful bread (which is beautiful) and then going home to America and reproducing "Tartine" open sandwiches with non Poilane bread. Absolute Rubbish, sorry.

I believe she did use Poilane bread. Remember, she said you can have it mailed to the States. The other round loaf she showed was a smaller loaf and she used that for the croutons. The slices of bread she used for the tartines looked much larger than the loaf she used for the croutons. Besides she was just showing how to do it. What is wrong with that? Don't you ever use different ingredients in a recipe? Tartines are not just made on Poilane bread are they?
I do like the show. Granted some of the things she makes are simple, but I think that is part of why I like it. She shows nice was to present a dish and proves that you can make a nice meal and it doesn't have to be really difficult. She also shows nice ideas on how to use flowers to make the table special. It seems to me she is doing more than just showing recipes. She is covering the whole picture, that is, the presentation and atmosphere.
Not everyone is an apprentice cook, and I do not believe that UKTV Food is just for chefs. It is for people who like to cook or would like to learn, so the recipes do not have to be terribly difficult.
That is my opinion.
