I just found a small preserved fish in my Maldon salt!!! What a surprise! Wonder if i've won a trip to their factory????

think you will find that this is called a silverfish, is it quite small, length about 1/2 inch at most? You usually find these in old houses, or where they may be a bit of damp.

No its an actual fish- its orange with a little tail no longer than a thumb nail. and soz but my house isnt that old!!! and it was on top of salt as i opened a new packet that hadnt already been opened!!!

mmm--- not sure whether to inform them- its not like i ate the thing!!! May be i should????? But hey its a natural product from the sea and your likely to get little fishes that live in the sea from time to time!!! yummy

Hi chocolate monster, this is fascinating. I buy maldon salt regularly and have never been lucky enough to find a fish .... although i do have an unopened box at home, so i may have to have a little look when i get home. I would let them know if i was you, as although it is a natural product from the sea, there should be stringent controls in the factory that this little sucker obviously slipped through. I think they would want to know.

Will do that after my holiday- but we often use it and it was just a bit of a surprise!! I wasnt huge and i wasnt likely to chike on it- but i see what you mean with the factory. Keep your eyes peeled now for little fishes swimming in your salt!!!
