My husband and I lunched at the pub today to celebrate his birthday and it was wonderful. The food was absolutely lovely, the wine list was very extensive and our New Zealand sauvignon blanc was fruity and well-rounded. Another plus is the restaurant and bar are non-smoking. It is a little out of the way but that's the beauty of it - very quaint and relaxing. I only wish it could be our local! It's so rare to find a pub with quality food, wine and service. Highly recommended!

We actually popped in last week for a drink and got a glimpse of him working in the kitchen. This time we sat in the restaurant and unfortunately there's no view into the kitchen, so not sure if he was there or not. Whoever was in the kitchen was producing lovely food!

My husband, daughter and I ate at the Pot Kiln last Friday. Mike Robinson was not there as he was filming for his new series and I can only hope that was why the food was mediocre at best and quite expensive. My daughter's main course of rabbit was overcooked and dry. When this was told to the waiter, he allegedly had words with the chef and reported back that it was because the rabbit was wild. The restaurant manager did subtract this dish from the bill.

We had been looking forward to our meal at the Pot Kiln after watching the Heaven's Kitchen series and meeting Mike at a Spanish show at Olympia earlier this year.

We have decided to give the Pot Kiln another try (hopefully when Mike Robinson is there). Better luck next time, I hope. We had a very good Rioja from Haro in Spain, which stopped the meal being a total flop.

Hi

My husband and I have eaten there twice and both times the meals were brilliant, not sure if Mike was there or not. We actually had a few drinks in the bar section on Monday afternoon and Mike sat right next to us for a short while with his family and friends. We did not speak to him, felt it might be rude but in hindsight we should have. Definitely give it another try!

Hi,

My boyfriend and I ate at the Pot Kiln last bank holiday Monday. Mike walked through the restaurant and stopped and asked us if we had decided what we were having, my boyfriend was having Roebuck Livers, Mike said good choice and that they had only come in half an hour earlier, fresh from that morning. I had Venison which was absolutely beautiful. The Tonca Bean Rice Pudding with Stewed Prunes was also gorgeous. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

P.S. Has anyone heard of Tonca Beans before or know where I could buy them?

Hi, me again! I found out where the POT KILN is so no need to answer above post. Now what I need from my fellow posters is, does anyone know where I can find the recipe for Lancashire Hot Pot which Mike Robinson made on "Heavens Kitchen'. I know it is a simple recipe but just fancied his!

Does anybody know the name of the Burgundy producers visited as part of the TV show?

To find the recipe for Lancashire Hotpot you could try buying Heaven's Kitchen Cookbook, I had a flick through it when I was at the Pot Kiln but I can't remember if that was in it.

Or you could always try ringing them to ask if it is.

The staff are very friendly.

I'm hoping to eat at the Pot Kiln next month. Unfortunately it said in Heaven's Kitchen at Large that Mike only cooks when it is his chef's day off, but if the quality varies that much when he isn't there he should be worried. I am really looking forward to going & I hope all Mike's business ventures are successful - Britain's food culture can only be helped by people as passionate as he is.

we went a little while back, and apart from one of the waitresses having a very drunken night off it was fab, and Mike Robinson wandered through and signed my menu *geeky fan girl squee*
had the crayfish bisque which blew my mind, I had the roebuck and foigras patty which was astounding (although the waiter brought us extra cous cous which no-one had any room for) 2 of the others started with the meaty salad and had the slow cooked belly pork for their mains and they said it was divine, another in our party had the fish, she's a bit of a fusspot and found nothing to complain about, be warned however the portions are huge! none of us managed dessert, the staff were great and the ambiance was very relaxed, they even guided us in when we got lost on the way.

I've just moved to Canada and the two things I am really missing are Great Food Live and lunches at the Pot Kiln. The food is just fantastic and the setting perfect. It's definitely one of the best pubs in the country and they also serve superb wines. Oh, now I'm really feeling depressed and hungry!!!

Ever since the first series of Heavens Kitchen, I have wanted to find an excuse to visit the pub and last weekend my wish was fulfilled and I wasnt disappointed in the slightest. The food was superb, the pigeon salad starter with bacon and black pudding was really tasty. A wonderful main course of wild fallow deer cooked perfectly with a red wine jus. All 3 of our desserts were delicious but my husbands Hot morello cherry souffle was outstanding. Cooked to order, risen perfectly and melted in the mouth. The staff were really friendly and very efficient and i would definately go again.

Karen333 I totally agree with your comments

I had the same starter and main,,both were exceptional.

I had a sticky toffee pudding,,that was small,,,expensive,,but boy was it good.

i think i spent about £60 for 3 courses inc a £20 bottle of Italian Red.

Praise to the chef as i don't think Mike was on that night.

Great pub, food, surroundings and staff.

The waiter who was was looking after me even booked me a taxi home,,when i mentioned i was gonna pop outside to order a taxi.

Jill2190, you're not the only one that misses Great Food Live. Angry

Pot Kiln is a FABULOUS restaurant! I had the game burger and it was out of this world. Give the pork belly a try, too. It is the one Mike made on GFL a couple years ago and it literally melts in your mouth.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! It is great. Wink

I've always wanted to go to this restaurant after seeing Heaven's Kitchen Cookbook and he made some vegetarian dishes that seemed marvelous.

He made a stuffed aubergine dish with a rich, lovely, garlicky tomato sauce that turned out beautiful when I gave it a try.

Well, maybe someday Big Grin
