anyone following the British Menu on BBC2. Its very interesting top chefs battling out to see who can cook for Queenie and guests. what if she prefers just Beans on toast.!!

I think it's a good idea, and they've got great chefs - but it is padded out beyond belief....if you took out the introduction, the "what happened yesterday", "meet the judges" and "what's happening tomorrow", they'd only be about 10 minutes of actual cooking! And what on earth are they going to do on Friday other than judge? ....I think a perfectly good programme has been ruined by trying to make it last twice as long as it actually deserves.

I suppose we have to look at it as an entertainment programme rather than a cookery programme. If you approach it from that angle you may enjoy it a bit more. Smile

Sorry - pressed the return key by mistake! Frown

I was going to go on and say has anybody watched the 'Eating with...' prgramme on BBC2? I'm really enjoying that. Last night's was very enjoyable with the adorable Nigel Slater. What a lovely man he is. Hug

I love Nigel & his food.

It's a shame Nigel doesn't want to do anymore cookery series. Frown

Unfortunatley I have not seen many of the programs.

At the moment it does not look as if it is the chefs who are going to decide what the meal is, it is the 3 JUDGES.
My Gripe is,
So why not just let the 3 judges come up with a 3 course meal and be done with it ??????????????. They seem to be more expert than the chefs !!!

Highlight so far---- Michael Caines getting some TV coverage

This week is much better, with Richard Corrigan and Paul Rankin,we have seen them on Full on Food and Ready Steady cook etc,and they are both great chefs, the banter between them is friendly and very respectful of each others talents. The menus looked lovely from both of them maybe they should let Queenie herself choose which one she likes the best.

I saw Mondays episode and I thought that Paul and Richard gave each other a lot of respect.
I now wish I had set video recorder !!!!!!!!!!!
Hoefully it will not be too long before it is repeated.
No mention of a book yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not really enjoying it that much - I think it's a bit too drawn out. I'm just going to watch the Friday show from now on to see the whole menu and the winner. Smile

I'll stick to BBC2 though to keep away from the adverts (especially the Schwartz one). Big Grin

Simon Rimer is against Marcus Wareing this week. Last week Galton Blackiston beat Awt. It is drawn out a bit, they try to tell you a bit about the chefs and where they get their ingredients from. The banter is amusing especially from the Irish chefs.

I'm with you Lil'Abby, too much information in a way, just one show per pairing, doing their full menu and us seeing the result and hearing what the judges say would be plenty for me. So I think Fridays only for me too from now on. Smile

Im enjoying the programme but think it would have been better to choose 3 chefs, 1 for the starter, 1 for the main, and 1 for dessert. That way we would have had the whole of Britian represented and not just 1 region.

The concept is far too drawn out, I think we all agree on that. But it is always good to see the lovely Rimmer, and Marcus W is a bit yummy, too - where has he been hiding? Mr Ramsey must have kept him hidden away as he is too much competition!! Get him on the screen more often ...

I think they should start putting these new faces on GFL, Marcus Wareing, and Galton Blackiston

isn't it reassuring to see some of these chefs making mistakes! like AWS and his burnt offerings last week, and Marcus Wareings not very nice looking Hot-pot this week!
Must admit Galton reminded me of Tigger in the Winnie the Pooh films. Sort of long and gangly and bounding everywhere. Not sure I could watch a lot of him.
The lovely Simon is doing great but being played very much as the under dog not expected to win chef.
I loved Paul rankins week and his pudding was GORGEOUS really pretty. I was sad he didn't win.

after watching for 3 weeks on bbc i must agree that it is padded far to much, but the one thing that annoys me is the judges know who the chefs are and therefore when tasting and looking at the food they seem to be able to attribute the dishes to the chef before they vote, there was no way that the classical london based chef was going to lose the the TV veggy chef with a bistro in manchester, that would be bad form old chap, if neither chefs were named until after the judging was completed i think that it would be fairer also it would be interesting to hear the menu that the experts would have put together from the 8 dishes put before them

The concept is good but gee whiz it does 'go on'. The produce clips are interesting when they visit the farms etc. but the carry on gets all too much for me. I just keep thinking to myself "they have to prepare 320 of each dish". The guests will need a haircut before the whole room has been served all the courses. Wink

Agree with maestro3 , rather boring now, some of those new faces/chef like Galton, really terrible, not for a great show, I am affraid!

But then again , I love AWT, so...

I agree it does go on a bit and Friday's show is always the most interesting, but in a way I like that they dedicate a whole program to each course - I especially enjoy watching them make dessert!
I enjoy seeing new chefs I haven't heard of too, though I really did want AWT to win over Galton Blackiston! But we have to remember it isn't a personality contest - Blackiston was very awkward on camera, but I suppose that's why he isn't a tv chef. Not everyone can be, however good a cook they are.

Fab show Smile would love to see Richard Corrigan or Michael Caines win the overall comp as not only are they good chefs they have personality too!unlike Galton and john Burtonrace.

I'm just absolutely fed up with it. If you watch the original on Beeb 2, fine, then it is on after Saturday Kitchen, then on UKTV Food, repeat, after repeat after repeat. Can't they get it in their heads we have had enough, and Restaurant Makeover is just about enough. Please someone do something about this absolute rubbish.
