I have a son who was born in 2000 and I wish to buy a bottle of port from that year to keep for his 18th birthday. Do I need to buy a special type of port or can any port be kept for that long. Please help.

I had a twenty year old bottle of ordinary cockburns port. I got it as a birthday pressent when I was 20 now at 40 we decided to open it at christmas. Now i was not sure and had my doubts that somthing would jump out of the bottle once opend, but no i was wrong it smelt fantastic and by god it tasted good. A friend of mine deals in wine and said that buy a bottle and leave it in a cold place and walk away from it no harm will come to it. i am not an expert so i do not know if this is correct but i can assure you there was noting wrong with my bottle of 20 yr old port. Good luck and what a beautiful idea. I wish you and your family a happy port opening session on your son's 18th! Big Grin
