Hello

Can anyone tell me where I can get a Global knives carving set in London please? John Lewis don't stock them and I've checked the Divertimenti web site and they don't do one.

I need a set for my brother's 40th birthday present!

Thanks

Jo

If you Google Global Knives , there are loads of sites selling them (Including John Lewis on line!).

Hi, talking about knives, could anyone let me know where i can get a set of knives for left handed people such as me? all the knives i've ever used seem to be blunt, i know there not, so i've come to the conclusion it must be me, please help be very much appreciated. Julie Confused

Go to www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk and look under kitchen equipment and there is a whole section on chef's knives.

Big Grin I thought a knife was a knife whichever hand you use it in. Never known anyone at a meal who is "left handed" requesting a left handed knife. However, if you want a balanced chef`s knive, look no futher than the Global range. Expensive, but worth every penny

I'm left handed and use global knives...I'll quote another contributor....'Expensive,but worth every penny'

as a fellow south-paw i can coach you on this one, right-handers sharpen their knives right-handed, so the sharpest bit is where they need it, compared to them we do things backwards, so we need to buy our own fresh new knives and sharpen them ourselves, use a steel not a sharpener as sharpeners are designed to sharpen for the rightys too.
best of luck

Glad to know somepeople understand what i mean about knives when your a south-paw, EssCee, try using left handed scissors when your'e right handed, and you'll find scissors are not scissors, just like a knife is'nt a knife to us south-paws, they become a problem. Big Grin

Nisbets are the best online, free next day delivery on orders over £70 (£82 with the vat) As for keeping the blade sharp buy the ceramic sharpener its a lot gentler than a regular steel and providing you dont drop it will last years (i did and it snapped clean in 2) but then you can buy replacement rods that you stick back into the handle.

Why not try Wusthoff knives, they are cheaper than Global and not so brittle, (global knives can break if accidentally dropped)

Sorry mate but Wusthof are definitely the more expensive knife of the 2, an 8" standard Global cooks knife retails (at Nisbets) for £48 but an 8" Wusthof is £59. I own in my set knives by Global, Wusthof and Henckles and from using them on a daily basis i will say that that the Wusthof is the heaviest with a thicker? weightier blade (Global have a hollow handle) BUT by no means are Global brittle, 7 years of daily hard work is proof enough and i've no complaints (could you be confusing them with ceramic knives? now they are expensive and can snap if dropped)

Either (or all 3) knives are a worthwhile investment, if you buy one set of knives then it makes sense to buy the best you can. Wusthof are heavier and more professional whilst Global are lighter, easier to sharpen and look so cool.

Theres no need to be sorry, I know what I payed and they were cheaper than Global, plus the guy at the shop told me that they were prone to breaking, he himself an owner of an upmarket kitchenware shop. Smile
