Please please can anyone help me with the recipe for the cheese flan we used to get at school. I have tried a lot of things but it never turns out the way we had it at school. The wholemeal pastry was devine.

Cheese flan

Ingredients

Serves: 6

100 Gram Butter
100 Gram Wholemeal flour
100 Gram Self raising flour
225 Gram Smoked streaky bacon, chopped
100 Gram cheese crumbled (choose your favourite)
3 Eggs, beaten
225 ml Milk (8 fl oz)
Freshly ground black pepper

Method

Rub the butter into the flours until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add 3 tablespoons milk and mix to a firm dough. Roll out on a floured work surface and use to line a 28 x 20 cm (11 x 8 inch) rectangular flan tin. Bake blind at 200 °C / 400 °F / Gas 6 for 10 minutes.

Place the cheese in the flan case (or add to egg mixture up to you).

Beat together the eggs and milk, season and pour into the flan. Bake 180 °C / 350 °F / Gas 4 for 25 minutes until set. Cut into squares and serve hot or cold.


Can add in 450grams of Leeks and 225grams of bacon sweated off. Fresh dill sprinkled on top is good too.

cheese flan was the best i,ve ever tasted at school. I am 30 now, and still havent managed to find a flan that tastes as good as the one I had at school your recipe is in my oven is in my oven now. I hope my children enjoy it as much as I did at school!!I've just registered to post this comment, because I can't beleive i've found somone who remembers it like me (how sad) he! he!
