I was just wondering if anyone went this year?

I go every year, and I was so dissapointed. It did not seem to have all the stalls from last time, there wasnt as many samples, or recipie ideas, I just thought it has really gone downhill. I noticed UKTV food werent there again. Not bothering next year now!

Amanda, I went for the first time this year so have nothing to compare it to.
Overall enjoyed the day very much and would go again.

I too went for the first time this year and really enjoyed it. The only probelm I had was that I went on Wednesday (Preview Day) and was disappointed by the lack of organisation for the collection of goody bags that came as part of our tickets. Apart from that I really enjoyed myself and will be going again next year.

It was our first time as well and I enjoyed it too. Even better was to watch Gordon Ramsay in action and meeting Gary Rhodes and James Martin was an added bonus as aside from Mr Ramsay they are my favourite chefs....I will definitely be going again next year.

I have to agree with AMANDA.

My husband and I have been for a few years but our last was Nov 2004 and we were really dissapointed, we used to come away with bags of samples and everyone was so friendly, this time they wanted money for everything i.e a sausage batch, bun or whatever you call it was £5, £6 if you wanted a brown one, my sister has also been going since the beginning with her sister in law they will not be going again as also very dissapointed. the show must be doing something wrong!

Why can,t they put the Birmingham Food Show on TV for the most of us who can,t travel to see them . GFL could do A Location show there for the duration of the show,so we can see some of the great chefs in action.

I think you will find it difficult for GFL to show the chefs demonstrating as I am sure each chef is either sponsored or paid to be on a particular stand or demonstration theater.

I have been to this show for at least last 7years, I have never seen a chef there who is not being paid or sponsored !!

I do recal GFL being there maybe 3-4 years ago

BUT

When I go to the Trade shows the some chefs are there on their own accord !!!.

One thing to take into account is when the show is on you have to ask yourself WHO is running their kitchens, after all , the people dinning in the chefs restaurants are probably thinking that the Celeb is running the pass or even cooking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I will now get Battered by most of you, but just my bit !!!!

Oh! Come on cheff

Only fish gets battered. Why worry, you speak the truth. The "Celeb" Chefs, Wine Experts, Presenters etc. are just doing a job and milking it for as much as possible and good luck to them. Just look at Gordon (I'm not a celeb chef) Ramsey. He must be making more from TV as a presenter than most of the others put together and so what, he trained and worked hard.
Lets face it, if another TV station offered Jeni, say 10k a year more, do you think her UKTV Food e-pals and viewers would get a second thought. Just as an example to close, Paul O'Grady didn't think twice about taking his whole show, not just himself to another channel. They are all great people but only a few will ever get to meet them and an even smaller number become friends but still whats wrong with dreaming?

Why have they stopped GFL from filming at the NEC Food Show? Not being able to get to Birmingham myself I used to love watching it on TV via Jeni Barnett. The only time I have ever been there was years ago, and it was marvellous then - I met Lloyd Grossman who asked me why I wasn't taking part in Masterchef!! (And that was when he presented the programme and it wasn't as intensive and competitive as it is now, as Masterchef Goes Large).

By the way, Barry, I don't quite understand how you thought I was leaving messages in 2003, as I only came onto the UKTV food site on a regular basis this year. It must have been again something I had to say about the Good Food Show at the NEC, if I did leave a message in 2003. It's nice to know, though, that you are so diligent watching all these messageboards, and adding your comments as much as you do. Do you ever get any time to do some cooking yourself?

Posting re Jeni's New Zealand hairdresser 2003.

As I work in a Hotel restaurant and cook at home everyday off, I probally cook a lot more than most. Mind you, your posting rate wasn't bad over eating woofles and tiddles but hey thats what these sites are all about and as long as exchanges stay sensible on the serious threads and do not get personal, long life to the site

All the best

Are fresh Elderflowers availabe?

Just to prove the point baiji just made, one click and it's all there to see with no other posters showing. Read this way makes interesting reading and shows interesting trends. One message posters, answering yourself etc. hence I do not have to be glued to the keyboard and can quickly cross refer to many postings.
