Hi there. Just a post on behalf of a friend. She is moving to Melbourne in Oz and wondered whether she can still get UKTVFood programmes there? Or can you get Sky etc. She is addicted to baking/cooking like me Tongue

Any info would be great. Thanks.

There are a few shows on free to air TV occasionally but not a lot. If your friend is addicted to cooking and cooking shows her best bet is to get Foxtel (Pay TV). With that she will have acces to the Lifestyle channel and also Lifestyle food channel. The first has a fair few cooking shows and the second obviously is a 24 hour food channel although in reality there is about 8 hours of programs which they just replay a few times through out the day.

The Australian version of Ready Steady Cook is on every weekday on free TV and they have just shown Jamies School Dinners. But I agree with Dunc, you need to pay for Foxtel or Austar to get the Lifestyle Food Channel which shows Good Food Live every weekeday (a week or two later than you see it in England). It's quite like UKTV Food in that it has lots of repeats but it also has a good variety of programmes from round the world (quite a lot of English ones).

Whereabouts do you live Dunc? And can you recommend a good Aussie monthly food magazine? (I'm on the Sunshine Coast hinterland, QLD)

I live in Melbourne. My favourite food magazine is 'delicious'. I also don't mind 'Donna Hay'. I find both have a good mix of simple recipes and also recipes for special occasions. I dont like all the cheap ones like super food ideas or table. I find most of the recipes in them a bit to boring.

HI, whilst you anitpodeans are on the line, can you tell me what is a "Jaffle"? I found the term in an Australian Womens Weekly cook book, but even after having looked at the suggested jaffle combinations (three were no recipes as such), am not sure if they should be toasted or if they are just a big overstuffed club type sandwich with lots of tasty fillings....? Please put me out of my misery!

A jaffle here in SA is two slices of bread with a normally savoury filling clamped together in a jaffle iron and held on the hot plate and toasted. (round toasted sandwich!) My goodness I have not made a jaffle in years - not even sure where my jaffle iron is. Since the snackwitch maker came onto the market, this is what one now uses.

Snackwitch maker? Um I think you've lost me there... I've never seen round toasties either! I think I get the gist of a jaffle now though, thanks Big Grin

Hi cheekygirl, I found a photo for you of a jaffle iron! Go to google, type in jaffle iron and then click on google images. Photo should appear.

Hmmm, looks like a satellite to me ... so it's used on a campfire by bushwalkers etc... Now I know. Cheers Smile
