Heston Blumenthal has apparently suggested that we cook our roast beef over 20 odd hours under a cigarette lighter, or something, has anyone got the exact temperatures for weights that he has said? I fancy giving it a try. Ta.

Didn't Nigella do something similar with Lamb? Mind you, if I put a roast on, no matter how slow, in the oven at teatime on Sat for Sun lunch, I wouldn't need an alarm clock in the morning! I'm sure the whole house would smell divine.

I remember Nigellas Lamb it just fell apart it was so tender.
I cant see the point of Heston's recipes other than a gimmick, would love to hear from some of the chefs points of view. He is an obvious genius in the kitchen but fullon food did his chips last series and it was so pointless and very funny i would rather just do them my way and dunk em in theketchup rather than mess about with a syringe!!
I will miss full on food tonight cos im out for a well earned drink after much sadness this last week and see my mate who is incredibly brown from her hols. but i will want to know what they get up to and if its a different format from last time round.

I am positive that scores of recipes and food ideas have been considered gimmicks over the years. Surely that doesn't make them pointless. I read a wonderful article a while ago where other chefs gave their views on Heston's food and most of the top chefs in the country loved the ideas, as did many of the celebrity and TV ones.

Hi mickey T no not Heston full stop I like him just the Full On Food did Hestons Chips last year and they all agreed it was pointless, time consuming and they wondered why anyone would bother. they did like them though but thought not worth the effort. they like me did agree his talents are enviable and of course he runs the world best restaurant. I agree with you that some of the best recipes come from inspiration and he is one of the best but still i meant my point above to say recipe, this one in particular not all of them, so sorry for the confusion, my dreadful grammar

I watched that last night, it was the first time i'd seen what heston looked like, he wasn't a bit how i'd pictured him! (very strange ears)I think he explained how and why he'd done it very well.I've done the slow cooked lamb before and it is so tender

Yep, I saw Heston too, and the beef did look great - and i took note re. carving. I remember the chips, and I am sorry, but didn't they do something like smoke them in hay first? Remember them being injected with tomato ketchup... chips are chips and none are better than eated in the wind and rain on the seafront with tons of salt and vinegar - yum!

How funny Glynis, when describing it to my OH last nite I said "you know, the programme we like - top gear but with food"!!!! Don't like merrilees much, although my OH thinks she has a couple of good assets . p.s. I love Top Gear!!!

I love top gear, it's the best thing on tv, not just because richard hammond is sooo sexy. And no, i didn't like the presenter either!
