OK after today, the poverty will not stop, but we can continue to help but without thinking about it. When you next go shopping and you are getting fruit or choccie etc- Why not buy Fair Trade Products? After all, the people you are buying from are trying to get themselves out of this situation and it is the perfect way to help. It might cost you a few extra pence, but at least you know you are physically making a difference.
If your supermarket does not sell much, then ask them to. You are the customer and therefore you are right.
Have a look at the fairtrade website and see what else can be done. Maybe have a Fairtrade stall at your next school summer fair or church fair or whatever

Be wary of Fairtrade goods as the system does not work as well as it is made out to. Really doesn't do as much as it would have people believe.

I have to say that you are mistaken, as I have a few friends in that trade who check these sorts of things out, and they know it goes to the right people. So don't try to bad mouth it.

Or maybe you are the Troll hiding under another name?? You see Trolls pick several new names and then use them to start a fire and they do not retreat and get caught out. Famous my rrssseee!!!! Famous for Astronomy maybe???

If genuine means rude then you are right. That post is rude and offensive and should be removed.

Read what I have said. It is widely known that there are many problems within the Fairtrade system, my post is a warning that it does not do as much as people are led to believe. It did not warrant a personal attack from someone.

OK Mickey T Do nothing, sit in your little palace and don't make a difference to anyone. But don't complain when you see on the TV millions of Africans coming to the UK, because there is no food, or persecution because they are fighting for a just cause - A cause we all need to fight for - Not just to stop refugees galore, but because they want to have a life, they want to eat, drink water and let their children be safe - There are always 5 percent of people who take the mick - Whether you are African, English, Indian, Scottish - That will never stop.

I want this to be the last Live Aid/8 ever, but unless we show unity we cannot - Remember our government are voted for by you and me, we are the masters as we pay and select them.

They should listen to us

What is your problem Nick?

Apart from the sheer audacity you have to point an acusing finger at me by assuming I do nothing. Which is very much wide of the beam. You are talking a general angle now whereas before you instructed everyone to buy Fairtrade as if it would save the millions.
What you say generally is true and Live8 will once again make a difference.
I gave a little insight into something I know a lot about because I have been part of it. Fairtrade has problems.

Mickey T does it matter there is faults in most things but there is also a whole lot of good. Nick is one of the good guys who is positive enough to think that it does help which of course it does and if there is problems with fairtrade it is not half as much of a problem as the poor suffer.

So why insult me for saying what I know? Shall I assume it is only a few entitled to post here? I have made an offering in response to the original post about Fairtrade and have been crucified for it. I have not given an opinion on anything except something I know about. I have not insulted anyone nor tried to upset anyone or spouted about something I do not know the facts of.
I have not said there aren't major problems in the world, I have simply said that there are problems with Fairtrade.
I am not saying Nick isn't a good guy, I am not telling him to get off his butt and do something, I am not having a go at him or anyone else. Simply defending the point I made, which I know is true.

Ok Mickey T - I apologise if I had a go, I am just a bit passionate about this sort of thing. I just think that if we don't do the right thing now, we are going to find this problem smacking us sharply in the face again and again. So I am sorry I personally attacked you.

Yes what an amazing day i really enjoyed it. I thought Pink Floyd were brilliant i must admit to thinking boring when i heard they were going to reform for the concert but they were pure class. I think they should reform and tour. I thought that Peter Doherty was the low point i am surprised Sir Elton had him on he spoiled his turn . Off to the web site now to sign up.

Pink Floyd were great, I bet people are buying their CD's today! so it won't have done them any harm. Some of these old ones are still terrific, I went to see the great Andy Williams last week. He is 77! and what an incredible voice...2000 people on their feet to a standing ovation when he finished,(And Thunder and Lightening from the Gods!!)
